Dabo on Russell and Kannell paraphrase..
Jul 25, 2016, 1:53 PM
|
|
He was being asked about kickoff and the high speed impacts that occur, should that aspect of the game be removed.
He said no. He's been on both sides of big fantastic plays that occur on special teams plays and feels like they are an important part of the game. Said that he didn't think any injuries occurred on our 176 kickoffs last year.. then he waited 10 seconds and laughingly said; well some folks may say that's because y'all aren't tackling anybody on kickoffs so that's why you don't have any injuries.
Pretty funny way to own and acknowledge a glaring deficiency from last year.

about it on a national radio show? I hope D-Rad is paying attention...Clemson demands winners, not someone who loses then laughs about it publicly! I'd say Dabo's seat better be warming up...

when our administration replaces him, they can get an energetic coach that is young, yet has a few years of experience. I'd say seven years of head coaching experience at the big time level with some experience in some big games would be good. Maybe have produced a team that finished #2 in the nation and won more games than any team in the history of where they are currently coaching. Maybe they can find someone that has
4 Division Titles 3 Conference Championship Game Appearances 2 Conference Championships 1 Semi-final Playoff Appearance would be nice 1 Semi-final win would be even better 1 National Title Game appearance (Would be hard to lure someone that has done this) 3 Orange Bowl Appearances 2 Orange Bowl Championships 8 Total Bowls 3 Top-10 Teams 1 Team ranked from 10-15 2 Teams ranked from 16-25
I know it would be very hard to find someone that has done all of the above in just 7 1/2 seasons. I mean, my gosh, they'd have to have something like a 75-27 record and 47-14 conference record. They'd have to be a heck of a recruiter where they are to have done all of that. Just not possible.
Oh, and I hope the Clemson administrator that gets rid of Dabo has his or her resume' updated and ready. HE or she is going to need it.

To me, there's nothing funny about losing that game and I'm appalled that Dabo is on a national radio show laughing about it. I thought best was standard? Apparently 2nd best is now acceptable?

hobby. There are only 27 teams in this country that have ever won a national title. There are about 12 that have won two or more. A number 2 finish with an Orange Bowl Championship and title game appearance is rare for any program. If we ever do win second national championship, and that's a tall order, the 2015 team will still be very special. You will not hear of just two national championship teams, but two national championships and a national runner-up. If you can't appreciate that, then you don't need a new team because chances are they wouldn't achieve that once in 25 years. What you need is another hobby.
As for Dabo laughing it off. Have you never heard of people addressing things that they fully know the magnitude of with humor?

I think you misread his comments completely if you seriously think he was laughing off how we lost that game or if you think in any conceivable way that he's satisfied with finishing runner up.
Way misread.

I hope I am missing the sarcasm in this post....Otherwise I would rank it in the Dumb Goober category without fail. I hope all can see two things about Dabo. 1) He hates to lose at anything. 2) You will never hear him speak of college football parity or make excuses i.e Tommy Bowden,"if we hadn't had those four busted plays we would have won", etc, etc. He takes ownership in the teams deficiencies. He has spoken of having three different consulting groups in over the off season to review special teams. He would assure you, special teams are being addressed. His statement in a very open and comical fashion was his further taking ownership of what we did not do. Is he supposed to be beating up 18 year olds in the national media for not performing as they should. That ship has sailed. It is what it is. To use one of his phrases that comes out regularly, he is worried about what's out the windshield not the rear-view mirror. What is in the past can not be changed. He got us to the mountain top and will again. IMHO if you want to blame where we lost the Natty, take a look at Kearse and Green looking ahead to the NFL and not concentrating on the team or feel sick that Mack Alexander tore another hamstring....But even that would be wrong because without their early play, we would not have gotten there in the first place. If all of us learn to truly look inside ourselves and learn to laugh at our mistakes, we would all be better off.
