Dabo Vs. Danny

Oct 8, 2017, 9:00 AM

Was just looking at head coaching records at Clemson. Dabo is 95-28. Danny Ford finished at 96-29. A win against Syracuse ties Dabo with Danny Ford with wins and one less loss. I suspect Dabo will take the lead and hit 100 wins this year. I doubt he'll be around long enough to eclipse Coach Howard's record of 165 wins. But one can hope!! Go Tigers!!

Quite the contrary...

I think Dabo hitting 165 wins at Clemson will be a no-brainer...say in the 2022-24 timeframe. That's not that far away.

You doubt he will be around long enough.By gosh, Clemson just gave him an 8-year extension on his contract.

I think a lot of peeps believe Saban will leave in the next

Oct 8, 2017, 10:03 AM

3-5 years and if Dabo is still being dominant here then bama will come with the big bucks to the home town kid and he might go. I mean his kids will be close to finishing school and if he's going to do it then it will be then. But that's the only scenario IMO. Unless something crazy happens.

What "big bucks"? Clemson has already shown that it will pay for good coaches. Dabo is the 3rd highest paid coach. If Saban leaves in 5 years, Dabo would have lived in South Carolina for 20 years by then, its as much home to him as Alabama is. He would also have been the head coach here for 14 years. Someone can fact check me on this but I can't think of any head coach who coached so long at a school and willingly left for another position without being fired. Also assuming he is still doing as well as he is now, why would he leave a program that he built to take over a program that someone else built?

I didn't say it would make sense

Oct 9, 2017, 4:09 PM

but if someone is from alabama, grew up alabama, played alabama, and had a chance to coach at alabama... they just might take the leap and it would be from a personal standpoint. Didnt' say I'd do it. But you don't know whats in his heart.

Dabo would never take that job. Alabama's style and Dabo's style are 180 polar opposites. He would go there and crash and burn. Dabo is smarter than to follow nick saban. He's here for the long haul. If we never run him out of town he will never leave.

smdh that some of you think he would leave here

He may have envisioned coaching Alabama at some point in his life. One has to remember his youngest knows only Clemson, for the most part, and won't finish college for another ten years.

Most important fact, though, is Alabama fired him years ago. They had their chance...lacked vision...washed their hands of him. ;)

165 is 70 wins more than he currently has in 9 years here

Oct 8, 2017, 9:23 AM

10 wins/year 7 years he will have record and the way things are going now I don't see 10 wins as being difficult GM for the Tigers to accomplish. Dadgum it the Tigers have won 28 games in 2 years and 6-0 this year looking like its another huge year with Championship aspirations again!!

Do you feel he leaves for Alabama in next few years as your reasoning for the "if he stays" ?? The allure of your own alma mater is strong as yes it worries me too but with the Tigers being elite now I certainly hope we can sustain the winning. Otherwise, with some losses and not championship level success, yes I agree he could easily go back to Alabama.

I don't see it happening, I think the legacy he is building at Clemson will be the greatest in college football history. Yes I said it and I can see our Tigers keeping this going for many years to come. The USC dynasty in mid 2000's, the Alabama machine that is still going will be tough to match/beat but it can happen. The talent, the staff, the University support, the best atmosphere in college football, beautiful stadium full of beautiful orange. The paw is strong and here to stay!!!!!

Get used to it, we will be hated eventually much like Alabama is now and I'm perfectly fine with that. It's great to be a Clemson Tiger ????

I wouldn't want to follow Saban. I'd rather forge my own destiny at Clemson. I hope he stays. Rarely does the guy who follows a Coach Saban,or Ford etc do well. Fans always compare the "next" guy.

I recall the times that I played NCAA Football a while back.

Besides playing Clemson, which was less challenging, I would like to pick the worst teams in the game and build them up to a powerhouse. I usually played Kent State, Idaho or Buffalo back then.

When building these teams up to be a powerhouse, it’s kinda hard for me to leave it. So, I usually created another save game for another team or scenario.

Well, that’s a game, but even for it, it was still hard for me to leave what I built. So, I can’t imagine Dabo leaving what he’s built at Clemson. The only thing I can think of that will make Dabo leave is he think he’s accomplished “his mission” here. And I believe that his mission is more than just football. So, if he thinks Clemson has a system that sustains success on and off the field, that might be the time.

In the meantime, let’s enjoy the ride.

I think Coach Swinney will break Howard’s record here at Clemson.***
