Daughter took this photo of a Clemson orange sky this morn!

She lives in Myrtle Beach by the ocean on the 23rd & 24th penthouse floors of a high rise condo and uses a special camera lens set-up that can take pics as far away as 10 miles out of the horizon due to height.

Enjoy and Go TiGERS!

Very early on in my career at chemical plants, I worked

11

Mar 29, 2023, 10:38 AM

rotating shifts at a DuPont plant outside Goose Creek. It was six stories high, and had big cooling towers on the roof. A lot of times when working the night shift, we would congregate on the roof just to watch the sun come up, seeing many a beautiful sunrise just like that one. Invariably, that would provide enough of a "second wind" to get us through the remainder of the long night shift.

As anyone who ever worked it can attest, it does not matter how much rest you get at home, there will always be that "dead zone" about an hour before sunrise where your body is just at a low ebb. Like it is saying, "What am I doing UP at this hour?" The sunrise brings it back to life again.

:)

One time I made it home, parked right in front of the house,

switched the car off, and evidently fell asleep behind the wheel before I could get out. I woke up sometime later, staring at a house right in front of my car, and nearly stomped the brake pedal through the floor before I could get my wits back about me, and realize the situation. Talk about an adrenaline rush, I didn't go back to sleep for a couple HOURS after that.

I worked some 3rd shift early in my career too. You are right, the last hour or two before sunrise I would think, man as soon as I get off work I’m going home and go to sleep. As soon as the sun rose, I’d be wide awake and ready for breakfast.

I worked 3rd shift one summer on a milling/drill press machine. The biggest problem with 3rd shift was, they always wanted you to work a 4th shift too. 16 hours on a drill press can kill even a young man, never mind the fact that the mill could completely remove your arm in about 1 second. It took a month after I quit that job to to the iron fillings out of my hands.

Sometimes the summer jobs we have as kids teach us what we don’t want to do for the rest of our lives. I know I had a job like that one summer.

But I should have said “the jobs we had” because I don’t think anyone learns that way anymore.

Jennifer takes a beautiful photograph, and it does look like a Clemson inspired picture. Give my best to her and let her know that I enjoyed her talent in taking photos.
