They seem to have some regrets setting in. Day late and a dollar short, I'd say.

I hope Israel doesn't let up. They should return every hostage that is still alive and then ask to talk. After that they should be bombed for weeks. Then they should agree to the fact that the same will happen if they attempt that brutality again. Bastaaads.

I will say that your specific reaction to this attack/conflict has surprised me a little…not that we all (well most) don’t share your hope that Hamas and those responsible feel some pain…just seems more personal with you somehow. Family/roots in Israel perhaps?

Jewish family on one side, my Mom's. It's more than that though. I see Hamas like I see the Naz*s or Isis. I want anyone that supports them dead or anyone that celebrates these attacks dead. The world will be a better place.

Gotcha…that makes sense, and you would be much more familiar with the players than I would. Admittedly, although I probably should, I don’t know Hamas from Hizbollah, or the PLO. All bad actors in my mind.

The reality is much more complex

Hamas will retreat and hide. They will use hostages as shields and disperse into the densely populated civilian Palestinian neighborhoods in Gaza.

Some air strikes will be conducted but the collateral damage will be high. It is likely that the Israeli army will also occupy Gaza at a high cost in human life. Be prepared to see a lot of carnage and casualties amongst civilians. Some Hamas terrorists will be killed but some will blend back into the population. Eventually there will be a political settlement because long term occupation is costly and with time unpopular.

A straw Palestinian government will be set up. It will be ineffective and the terrorists along with new terrorists will reemerge. The process will repeat as it has for 75 years.

Bingo. This is how they operate.

They attack, do bad stuff, slaughter women and children and civilians, then retreat, knowing they will be slaughtered. Then they go all heels and beg for a cease fire while allowing in any journalist with a camera. This way they make Israel look bad. Meanwhile, they're planning their next attack.

It's textbook, and predictable, entirely.

And it will not work this time.

I read somewhere earlier today that the dead Israel has suffered would on a proportional basis equal to 25K dead Americans in one day.

I don't think we would tolerate 2500 rockets on day 1 of the Hamas attack and the slaughter of innocent men, women and children without exacting a very heavy pay back.

Screw Hamas. Israel should try to avoid as many civilian casualties as it can, but hopefully will make the price for what has happened such a severe one, that others will have second thoughts about messing with Israel again.

There are close to 1k dead out of 9million people. We lost about 3k out of 340 million. Do the math. Not to mention the 100 or more people they kidnapped who still may die.

not just Hamas. Anyone who gave material support to Hamas (like Iran, Qatar or any Arab country) should be punished as well.

Give Hamas two options, surrender or die. And if any do surrender, hang them.

I would negotiate that they return everyone alive and then we will see. Start with that. Then of course there will be other consequences, like maybe a 1 mile wide buffer between the two areas. You have to get the hodtages back. Hamas is threatening to kill some of the hostages. If they do, just level the place with no regard. At stage you know none are coming home anyway. Then never negotiate again, because there is no reason to. They just want Israel gone and Jews dead and nothing else will appease them.

Another reality _ Palestinians are Sunni Muslim

Killing tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands will not play well in the streets of Cairo or Riyadh. For the most part, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have been playing nicely with Israel. But their Muslim populations will have limits. In fact, 80 % of the Muslims in the world are Sunni. World support for Israel will rapidly diminish in a prolong conflict especially with significant civilian casualties.

Retaliation is justified but achieving it without significant adverse outcomes is a tight rope.
