Did Dabo want the storybook ending too much?

2

Weitz hitting what would prove to be the game winner would have been a thing of legend. Can you imagine the post game presser, the national news, the articles written. That had to play a part in the conservative play calling at the end. The kid’s new boss in the stands probably fired him when he came out of the locker room. Lol. Thx Dabo

Personally I think this is exactly what he was doing. In his mind he believes in the eternal Disney movie. Instead this year we are more like some old horror flick.

You already know he had that part of his post game speech memorized from the 40 times he practiced it in the mirror this week. He had a chance to beat a team filled heavily with players from the transfer portal and he was gonna use the kicker he brought back to campus earlier in the week to do it and it didn’t work.

Who else was he going to put out there? The guy who hasn’t been able to kick it in the ocean or the guy who hadn’t missed to that point? That part seemed like the right call.

The larger decision is what puzzles me. It’s not the call I would have made (bringing in a guy off the street when there is this thing called a transfer portal) but hey it’s his job and his decision.

I think the question is less around who you bring in to kick, but rather did the playcalling go conservative (not going for the TD) because it would be such a good story if and when he hits the game winner.

Oh the back and forth between conservative play calling and terribly timed aggressiveness has been very odd the last several years.

We should of been trying to score, we was milking clock for a fg when we have no kicker, I'd of rather lost trying to score a TD than lose trying to kick a fg with a kicker that worked at Walmart monday

I think Dabo spews allot of coach

speak in his pressers sometimes but for some reason I believe him when he said after the game they really thought that QB draw was going to hit. Do I don't necessarily think it was just conservative as much as just a bad call

QB draw fits squarely in the conservative category for me.

I think you’re confusing successful with conservative. A play can be conservative and successful just like a lotto ticket can be a really bad bet and worth a million bucks.

I was thinking that as well. On a different note, Gunn has to be sick to his stomach that he let the team down and we had to with Weitz.

Yeah to be such a highly rated recruit and for your team to have to go to these lengths must hurt. Kickers man…….can’t stand for a hard fought game to come down to kickers. Mental game has to be premium.

LOL. Dabo trying to self write a movie story line about himself someday. Move over "Bear" and "Rudy" here comes the premier of "Dabo" The Movie.

You know he loves those Disney moments

Tried to get one for BT potter during the 2020 season. Ran him out there for a 60+ yard “I believe in you” FG before the half that got blocked and returned for a TD. Killed momentum going into halftime for no reason.

100% what happened and it pisses me off beyond belief. All we had to do was play for a TD and make a stop on offense but NOOOO

Yes- but it was also the high percentage play typically. Our defense was playing great in the second half. Take the 3 points make them tie or beat you with less than 1:30 remaining.

The Noles started a drive pinned deep with 2:12 left before the half and had it in field goal range with 1:49 still on the clock. Then scored a TD. They proved they could do it.

100%. Nobody thought a QB draw was going to get 7-8 yards lol he was trying to get the ball positioned for a comfortable kick and tell everybody how great of a call he made to get that kicker on campus and gee golly how cool was that?
