When I lived in New Hampshire, the ice on the lake in front of our house was usually about 2 feet thick by mid February. Some fools drove out on the lake and pitched their tents late afternoons. They drilled holes about 3 inches diameter in the ice and fished all night.

When I checked them out about noon the next day, most usually had 3 or 4 perch about 6 inches long.

Not for me. I fished the lake in spring and summer.

They had an ice fishing tournament one weekend every February on our lake, and it looking like a parking lot with so many cars. Hard to believe that ice could hold up that many cars, but it always did.
