DJ ain’t the problem lay off him play complimentary football

Dec 1, 2022, 11:47 AM

Just read the article about Dabo and mental Monday. I wanted to point out DJ over time HAS improved kind of big statically speaking. His completion percentage is 62% versus 55% last year. His passer rating is 136 versus 108 from last year. He has 2500 yards passing through a 12 game regular season whereas he had 2200 last season through 13 games. His passing TD’s are 22 versus 9 from last year. His interceptions thrown are down as well. The only negative I know of is his fumbles which is fixable. My point in writing this is to show DJ is a good QB and if he can just fix a few things and continues on the trajectory he is on he will succeed and become an even better QB next year. Everyone blasting him, Dabo, raising Cain and all that needs to stop. NOBODY on this planet could duplicate the job that Dabo has done in Tigertown. I know it blows that we lost to ND but they are a good/decent team and it was an away game. I hate the fact that we lost to a lesser opponent in Usuck because honestly we win that game take care of business against UNC we are in the playoff period, at number 4. I’m my opinion Dabo is pissed because he knows we win that game we are in the playoff, plus everyone including the media believe there is some sort of controversy at QB and Cade ain’t ready. Dabo knows that this team is capable and has the talent of beating anyone in the country when they play complimentary football. We all need to be appreciative of the job Dabo has done and this team being 10-2. Go Tigers and beat the Tarholes

He isn't the only problem, but he is a problem.

His accuracy is very poor on anything other than short throws to the flats and outs, which are spot throws to a predesignated target. Any throw that requires leading or anticipating the receiver, DJ 's success rate is not good.

There are many other players on the offense not living up to expectations, but better QB play sure would help this offense a lot.

Well said BigTiger he has improved dramatically from last year, especially his running ability. Cutting back RPO plays has helped him too. But unfortunately he is not consistent. He has some games like last week and Syracuse that he just can't hit the side of a barn. We don't know if Cade is ready or not. Anyway, the entire offense does need to step up this week eliminating turnovers would be a big help.

So let's say DJ isn't the problem and he returns next year as you think ,now you may have a bigger problem;
Do you honestly think Cade is going to stay as the back up next year.

We hve a completely open competition for the QB position - among 3 5-star QBs - problem solved.

DJ has improved.., from terrible to mediocre.
If he was just “good”, we’d have a shot at the CFP.

The gaslighting conman youth pastor coach can't see that his QB has no leadership on or off the field. Dabo may have told Shipley he is not to assume a leadership role either - see Shipley's comments after the USC game. The AD needs to have a sit-down performance review with Dabo, but the AD too scared - see Dabo's threat to leave. It's gonna be a hot mess in Clemson until someone steps up.

As best I can tell “complimentary football” means watching your QB miss guys by 20 feet all day and then complimenting him in the press.

This is dumb in a lot of ways. But most importantly, your idea that he's on a strong trajectory is a complete fabrication. First, last year, we played a harder schedule, especially defensively.

On the season, DJ has improved. Last year, DJ was in the bottom 10 in the country statistically in passing accuracy, rating, and the worst in yards per attempt. This year, DJ is bottom 25 in yards per attempt, #66 in accuracy, and #63 in rating. That is an improvement on the season for sure, but to say he's a good Quarterback when he's one of the worst in the P5 statistically despite us having a weak schedule is the height of absurdity.

But most importantly, his numbers this year are better because of the first half of the year (where we didn't play a team in the top 50 in passing defense). He has regressed to 2021 levels in the latter half of the season. He's actually on a downward trajectory.

In the last 5 games, DJ has completed 57% of his passes for 846 yards (169.2 yards a game), 5 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. He has a 109 passer rating. If you extend that out to the full 12 games, he'd have a 109 passer rating, 57% accuracy, 2030 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. And his yards per attempt are 5.4 in the last 5 games, which is less than last year.

Is DJ fixable? I don't know. He has to improve his vision, his ability to read defenses and go through progressions, his footwork, his release, and his accuracy. He's not a 16 year old high school kid. He's a junior who's graduating this month. He needs a complete overhaul in all of his basic mechanics. There are some coaches who likely could do it. One thing I know is that our coaches cannot. Streeter actively harms QBs (even Jacksonville said they had to largely reteach Trevor everything). Even if DJ were to improve his mechanics, I don't see anything from him to suggest he has the leadership abilities or competitive fire to be a good quarterback. He is not active when he's on the field and the offense is sluggish. He doesn't do anything with the receivers between plays to try to improve chemistry and figure out weaknesses like Deshaun and Trevor did. Shipley is the leader on the offense, and is the only one with fire (along with Williams sometimes). Those are not a "few things" he can fix. It's who he is.

DJ sucks. He is a big part of the problem. We also need better WR's who separate. Then you add that our OC is predictable and you have a recipe for a junk offense.

No this is not big Dave, no I don’t have my head in the sand, thanks for the rude/crappy comments. I hope it makes you feel better about yourselves! Man the internet is a great place! I’m with Dabo my coach, the man who took Clemson from being happy about 8-4 and a Usuck win to multiple national titles and 10 win seasons. DJ can’t catch the ball, DJ can’t play safety, DJ doesn’t return kicks, DJ isn’t perfect. To the people who are demanding more, wanting more, perfection don’t exist. To all the people who go against what coach is all about you ain’t real tiger fans, you are drinking the wrong cool aid and mad we ain’t in the playoffs. You don’t have a clue what the players go through and the sacrifice they make. Why is it hard to be supportive of Dabo and DJ?? Watching too much ESPN?? You can break the season in half and give that statistical analysis but it’s not the complete picture over time. Oh and by the way more than likely none of you could even complete a 25 yard pass much less get up after having a 6’ 5” 265lb DE hit your blind side. If you ain’t behind your coach and QB 110% then who are you behind?? Just like Frank Howard said if you don’t give me 110% then keep your filthy hands off my rock. Go Tigers I hope DJ proves the naysayers wrong, he will, and I hope we beat the breaks off Mack Brown’s Tarholes and destroy whoever we play in the bowl game. What do you guys hope for?? Sorry for the rant but i love my tigers.

very specific details in analyzing how QB play has actually been. We can all have genuine respect and regard for Dabo and what he's done whilst still recognizing that he's not infallible. The devil is in the details and TigerPride97 stated it very well.

Cheers.
