Doak Campbell Flashback 2006

September 16, 2006: The Tigers are locked in a tie with #9 FSU 20-20 with 1 minute left. In what may very well have been Tommy Bowden's best coaching call, the Clemson O goes to a quick count on the snap with FSU defenders still looking to the sidelines, and James Davis dashes to the 2 yard line!

Three plays later, Thomas Hunter, throwing bodies left and right, leads Davis into the endzone for the go-ahead score and game winner! Thank god too cause the kicking game was abysmal that night.

It would be the Tigers' first win at FSU since 1989.

The Tigers would climb to #10 that season riding high off a first-ever-Gameday win over GT until the wheels came off at VT the next Thursday night. They finished 8-5 with a loss to UK in the Music City Bowl.

The 'Noles would end up 7-6 with a win over UCLA in the Emerald Bowl. 5 of these wins were later vacated for NCAA violations, making the 2006 FSU Seminoles official record 2-6.

I enjoyed this win more than the GT game, to be honest. This was a fun season until Blacksburg! To this day, I still don't like Brandon Ore lol

That was nuts. We had a nice “Spiller Time” poster made up for the game, and when things got crazy at the end, we hoisted a guy up and had a bunch of the orange “Beat FSU” stickers to stick the poster to the glass on the front of their end zone luxury boxes. I recall seeing a photo published of it somewhere the following week. Great, great win.

I remember it well. Was in the stands at the opposite end and could see us snap the ball with the entire FSU team looking to the sidelines. It was a thing of beauty and lots of 1-2-3-4... chants as we walked down the ramps to exit the stadium.
