What is the most humane way to kill a bird.

We had a little dude end up on our back patio after the storm. He looks like he may be paralyzed. I have him resting in a box in the garage, just in case he just needed to rest back up, but I don't think he's going to pull through with any sort of expediency and it is beyond my compassion level to nurse him back to health for however long it takes.

Putting him back into the wild and letting nature run its course is one option, but I figure while there is an opportunity, I could MAID him with some humanity, but not sure of the approach.

There is always the pellet gun, but curious if there is a better way. And I don't feel like googling Bird Murder.

When you shoot a dove, quail, or duck that doesn’t die, you have a number of options. Likely the most common you’ll see would be to just ring their neck, but smacking their head good and firm against a boot or side of a boat works well too. This is a fairly common occurrence, those are the two quickest and best ways.

If you can't do it yourself (and I'd struggle with that as well) then you may be able to take him to a vet to be euthanized.

Though I was really looking for someone to recommend putting it in an airtight container and/or sticking it in the freezer, as those are supposedly not bad ways to go?

We may be letting nature do its thing.

Do not throw it in a lake. And if you do, make sure the water is deep enough that you can’t see it when it hits the bottom.

So that the body can’t ever float up. No body, no murder charge. It’s also good to chop them up Dexter style and put in large duffel bag w rocks before sinking in Hartwell at one of the deepest spots in the lake.

Wait wut?

But he answered for reelz. Do what he said.

When I take life from an animal, I give thanks for its spirit and honor its life. In 40 years of hunting, I’ve never allowed a single picture of me with an animal. This is not your scenario, but you can do the same by ending it’s suffering.

The bird stabbed him with part of the missing plate, and he then strangled the bird with a bike lock against a pole in the basement.

It sounds terrible, but it’s instantaneous, rapidly spin the bird on the axis of its head and neck.

The head will come off easily and the bird will be deaded.

I checked on the bird this morning and he tried to escape as soon as the towel was off his enclosure. So, I took him out to see if he would fly out of my hands, and he did. Then he flew into the side of the house and fell about 12 ft. down to the driveway.

But, seeing that his wings still worked, I put him in some wooded space behind the house, and will let him figure it out from there. I think his leg(s) is broken, which is why he's acting weird, but it's not like he's walking and he can still fly so at least he's got a fighting chance.

I can shoot my dog if that's what it takes to end its suffering. I'm not claiming to like it but it's one of a man's chores.
