DW4 Spike?

I'd imagine this has been discussed ad nauseam so I do apologize. Just getting settled from the big win. Can anybody link discussion or quotes from the miscommunication where DW4 spiked the ball to kill the clock? I appreciate it and dang is it good to be a Tiger.

Seems Dabo made a gesture & DW read it as spike.

Could see him at the game talk to dabo when he came off the field and dabo immediately turned to one of the assistants. It was clearly a called spike. Someone must have thought it was 2nd down and it happens. It was hectic and everyone was excited to see us having our way with a Fsu defense that played pi$$ed off the entire game.

DW gets a lot of lattitude as sort of a "coach on the field"

I think with that in mind it was pretty incumbent on him to be aware of the down and situation.
IMHO, he just made a silly mistake.
And fortunately, he was good enough to overcome it with stellar play in the second half.

He's a player though.... He's actually playing in the game

And has an enormous amount of adrenaline going. I think he was just locked into scoring and giving them the best chance to score, when he saw the spike call he didn't question it and assumed it was second down. I don't think you realize how hectic situations like that are for players and coaches but the players are in a completely different universe. I'm sure we've all made the mistake of getting the down wrong. Whoever anyone wants to blame its just one of those things that happens. It's humans calling and playing an adrenaline fueled hectic game and we still got points out of it.

It was probably decided that DW would wear this one. I'd say if it's one of the coaches he'd probably be happier with the public knowing than he was with the butt chewing he got from Dabo.
DW took the heat. Anyway you shake it he's a hero. He either stood up and claimed his mistake or took the heat for one of his coaches. No problem for me to appreciate either.

Dabo had him spike it to give FSU the thought that we would back off and not be aggressive in the 2nd half.
Worked like a charm.

I haven't seen any official quotes, but a source stated that Watson thought he saw the signal given on the sideline. Regardless, it's water under the bridge. He got the job done and did it with style.
