Kind of reminds me of that line from major league. I thought you said we didn't have any high priced talent. Oh, that's Dorn. He's just high priced.

What ESPN is doing is very reminiscent of MTV

In the mid to late 90's

They can't just do what they used to do. Used to be that the only place you could see highlights was on sportscenter. But now you can see things on social media much faster. So sportscenter has to adapt to add more incentive to watch. Which is why they add all these "experts" screaming opinions, give the anchors more personality and opinion, bring celebrities on etc..

Would be so funny if they had to and should cut the SEC's pay to what other leagues get

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They are locked into a long-term contract. That's why they

Mar 7, 2017, 8:25 AM

are in so much trouble right now. Their revenue is decreasing rapidly due to people ditching cable and most of their expenses are in long-term media rights contracts. That gives them very little wiggle room to cut costs.

Honestly, the SEC deal isn't even close to their biggest problem. They have a 2.67 billion per year deal with the NBA through to 2025 and a 1.9 billion per year deal with the NFL through to at least 2021. They are paying the SEC a fraction of that... about 150 million per year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think if they cut everyone,it'd be about $32,000 of talent***

The first cuts should be the 2 clowns on at 6:00 p.m., then Fowler, then Stephen A. Smith.

before they ask the government for a taxpayer funded bailout for bad business decisions like the big banks and insurance companies?

an integral part of our economy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As someone who lost $17,000 and a home..

Mar 7, 2017, 8:55 AM

in Wells Fargo's home loan kiting scheme, and got repaid a whole $820 in a Federal Class action suit against them ten years later, I don't see how rewarding crooks by bailing them out with my tax money helps the economy. If conditions of firing CEOs and making them pay back consumers were part of the deal, I could agree,. At the same time companies that demand "free market" to control employee wages, but demand "socialist" bailouts by the government to protect them from their own greed and corruption without some form of punitive action, burn my -ss!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they should just play music and show the sporting event.....

Re: ESPN to cut $100 million in on-air talent?

Mar 7, 2017, 8:36 AM

Probably my favorite on ESPN is Le Batard, because he'll tell them when they're full of crap. They'll probably cut guys like him and Herbstreit, but hang on to Stephen A. and Mark May.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ed Cunningham and Mike Patrick could be the first to go

Mar 7, 2017, 8:49 AM

I sincerely doubt they would be a drop in a 100 million dollar bucket, but still they must go.
