There seems to be some confusion on the boreds...

Mar 17, 2017, 12:33 PM

Clemson is a football school. We are currently the best football school in the country, that's not even debatable. Football draws the biggest crowds, the most money, and the most attention. Those things all help the athletic department and help increase interest in admissions. Any AD who does not take these things into account is not qualified to be an AD.

I think all the other sports (basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, golf, etc...) are awesome, and should be supported. I also think we can be "good" at more than just football, but make no mistake, football is the goose that lays the golden egg. No matter what the other sports do, football will be the engine that drives the AD machine, and will be treated accordingly.

Every other school in the country would gladly trade a championship caliber basketball or baseball program for a championship football program with our fan support. Any school or fan who says different is not being honest.

So please, spare me the tears about the Clemson treating football differently than other sports. You're #### right football is treated differently, and deservedly so, it's earned it.

Thank you.

Basketball can be a major revenue sport too...

Mar 17, 2017, 1:16 PM

We just aren't taking advantage. We do what Wake Forest does in football. Take that ACC basketball money and throw it at our football program. If we were smart we'd invest that money into a great head coach and be a part of March Madness more often than once every 6-7 years. There's plenty of visibility and money in college basketball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Basketball is not in the same stratosphere as football

Mar 17, 2017, 1:30 PM

revenue wise. Even at "basketball" schools.

25%+ percent of total athletic revenue doesn't seem...

Mar 17, 2017, 1:51 PM

important to you? Those numbers should have been shown as a pie chart...not a bar graph. 25%-35% of those school total revenue came from basketball. Even at big time "football schools" Wisconsin and MSU.

You just put words in my mouth. Every dollar is important,

Mar 17, 2017, 1:59 PM

but had Duke been able to put 15,000 more fans in the seats at 5 home football games then their football revenues would have surpassed their bbball revenues. Duke is the team leaving revenue on the table more so than anyone else. Looks like the others have it figured out, max out the football revenue b/c the money just isn't the same in bball, even if you're the Dukes of the world.

Stadium, and they have arguably one of the best coaches in college football:

revenue (We pulled in $46 million last year due to football and almost $10 in basketball revenue) but I told you we could double our basketball revenue by hiring a good coach and filling Littlejohn, why wouldn't you do it?

My biggest question is how are we so far behind so many schools if football revenue?

this year's SEP is trying to milk it. going for max revenue

from those with seats between the 30s. when we're winning, you gotta pay for good seats.

I thought it was only $5.67

Who said I wouldn't?

Mar 17, 2017, 3:17 PM [ in reply to I don't think we've even figured out how to max out football ]

I think you're argument would be valid if I said we should forget about other sports, but I never said that. I said football is the cash cow and will always be treated differently b/c of that. I also said I support all sports.

I think you might want to reread my op.
