Phosphates can help the effectiveness of detergents. But phosphates and nitrat

Are nutrients in wastewater that cause eutrophication _ which increase the growth of microorganisms / algae in receiving waters such as streams, rivers, lakes and bays. This increase in these organisms can deplete the dissolved oxygen in the water and result in fish kills. Advanced wastewater treatment facilities can remove nutrients prior to discharge to the receiving water.

What I've gathered from responses thus far is that AI can regurgitate technical writing without a scintilla of human emotion.
F them bots. Give me phosphates all day long and twice Saturday night.

Controlling nutrients to receiving waters is basic environmental chemistry known since the 70’s. Storm water runoff can be more significant than point sources (WWTP) especially from agricultural sources and residential areas. Unless you like fish kills and dead coral reefs, embracing wastewater chemistry and technology seems prudent.
Of course chopping down lead paint chips or inhaling asbestos may be appealing to some.

I don't like fish kills 'less I'm the one killing, and I don't like dead reefs no matter who's doing the slaughtering. But that don't help me figuring why my dish detergent specifies 'no phosphates.'
EPA mandated disclaimer, best I can tell.

I’ve wondered the same about unleaded gas? They added the lead back when we were all getting brain damaged, why can’t they just call it gas since they don’t put the lead in there anymore.
Why is “get the lead out” a plea to hurry up. Wasn’t engine performance better with leaded gas?
So many questions
