and was actually pleased with the progress and performance I saw from my Tigers against the #4 team in the nation. It's amazing how wrong so many were about our players, coaches, schemes and our chances leading up to this game. It was a great game. Like the puntrooskie game on the same field, I was broken hearted from the outcome. But, I was encouraged by what I saw. Yes, our young offense made a mistake on a sack, scoop and score, but, with only 1 offensive player moving on after this season, and another strong group of freshmen coming in, the future looks bright to me. I think we see a continued jump in offensive production over the rest of the season. There aren't any dominant teams in college football this year. Who knows how this season will play out. I wouldn't rule out an ACC championship game appearance for The Tigers.
I am a bit disappointed by the gnashing of teeth from people on this board who don't see it, but the childish eagerness to bitchandmoan shouldn't surprise me.
Loved our offensive scheme and play calling. Defense was amazing for all but the end of the second quarter. We have found a QB. Something we haven't had for a couple of years.
I remain optimistic.

That doesn't sit well with me. That type of phrase is what we use to say under Tommy Bowden.
This should be a top 10 team with better coaching, ONLY ONE added deep threat from the portal, and a portal kicker.
So yes, I'm optimistic and eager to see us get better but incredibly disappointed what got us here.

The coaches put us in position to win the game. Points off turnovers have us outside the top 10.

In a vacuum; yes the team looked better.
Defense is I think top 8 in the country and offense finally showed some life against a good opponent (the RPO screen at the end though... just ugh).
These are reasons for optimism.
However, we still make the worst mistakes at the worst time. Repeatedly. And that's a sign (to me at least) of a poorly coached team and lack of attention to detail.
Which side wins out? Well, if we beat Syracuse convincingly then it's the former. If we lose, the latter.

The RPO screen was never supposed to happen.
Klubnik checked into it and he made a freshman mistake.
The coaches have said they never should have given him that option. The intention was always to run it up the middle and the WR screen was just window dressing to shift the defense.

Exactly this. It's frustrating to see the turnover bug bite us again but it wasn't from a terrible decision made by Cade or anyone else, just a missed assignment from mafah. The lack of kicking is frustrating as well. How many games have we won over the last decade though where the other team missed an easy or manageable field goal? I can think of at least 3. Keeping DJ as starter for two years slowed us down but they are now making progress.

Anywhere from 9-3 to 6-6 is possible IMHO. How do the coaches and players respond? The team gave it all they had vs. FSU and just could not get it done due to recruiting, speed, coaching, and kicking issues but not effort. The Duke loss was the back breaker. The other games meaningless.

Who is giving up on the players? I must have missed that. I guess I also missed seeing giving up on all coaches. If folks were giving up on the team, they would not care about wanting to see improvement. They would just not care and would not waste time on commenting on this board. The fact that some are not yes men/women does not mean they have given up. It means they are not going to accept losing and excuses for losing from a program that has been at the top of the CFB landscape and is now in decline. We just want it fixed. We have the talent. We have some good coaches. But we also have some coaches that need to move on.
I for one, do not think the talent is being developed as well as it could be and game day decision making needs to be better . That is coaching. Fix that and we are back on track to stay atop the CFB heap. Is that too much to ask for?

A couple of losses is nothing in the grand scheme. This team had chances and as they sit at 2-2 that record "could" be 4-0.
I do not live in a could be world, but even at 2-2 the team has shown glimpses of great football. Unfortunately it is the critical/untimely mistakes that are leading to turnovers that are directly leading to TD's for opponents that is absolutely debilitating. Defense no chance to overcome those situations without also creating a pick6 or scoop score on fumble. That is a lot of pressure.
Take care of the ball, it has to be #1 priority but it still is biting the team.

This performance gives me hope that we may be there next year.
Yes, I'd have preferred to win the game, but if you think that FSU is really number 4 then we are right there.
I have my doubts that they really deserve a ranking of 4.

But, I think that's true of every team in the country at this point. One thing you have to do if you are going to move someone out of the top 5, 10, 20 or whatever in the rankings, you have to have someone to move up into those spots. Who is obviously better than FSU at this point who isn't ranked ahead of them?
I don't see anyone clear cut superior teams in the country that are likely to go undefeated, though Georgia has a super easy schedule.

I see players and coaches who are working hard, and giving good effort, but not getting the desired results.
I see thousands of Clemson fans showing up to games and commenting online about Clemson football. That shows a lot of care, concern, and dedication.
It sounds like you want unconditional approval of everything the coaches and players do, and if so, that's ridiculous.
Support the coaches and players? Absolutely! Pull for them to figure it out and turn things around? For sure! But something isn't working. In fact, a lot of things aren't working.
We are 2-2 on the year, 1-4 in our last power 5 games, and have underachieved significantly three years in a row now.
We have top 10 talent, top 10 facilities, and top 10 payroll. This is unacceptable.
