"Founding Brothers" by Joseph J Ellis

Jul 4, 2014, 8:17 AM

If you feel so inclined, I suggest reading "Founding Brothers" by Joseph J. Ellis.

It's brief - only about 240 pages - yet it won the Pulitzer for painting the context of the fragility of America using six stories:

1. Hamilton and Burr duel

2. Washington's Farewell Address

3. Adams' political partnership with his wife

4. The debate over the placement of our capital

5. Frankin's attempt for Congress to confront slavery and Madison's attempt to block him

6. The famous correspondence between Jefferson and Adams
