Gameday and a Call to Arms

Sep 25, 2022, 6:03 PM

To quote the movie, “A Knight’s Tale”:
“For I would lay rest the grace in my tongue and speak plainly. Days like these are far too rare to cheapen with heavy-handed words.”

Making the College Playoffs 6 years in a row, winning Two of the titles, 6 ACC Championships, tons of bowl hardware, and year after year after year of 10+ win seasons have placed Clemson in the elite of college football. We, as fans, have adopted the motto of our team, “Best is Standard”. But do any of us remember how great it felt to be along for the ride just a few years ago? Do we remember when Auburn came and how crowded Clemson was on that Saturday? Do we remember when Gameday came for the night game with Georgia in 2014.?ABC aired the bus ride around the stadium! Brent said the entrance is so good that even Georgia had to rake a peek! Do we remember the joy felt in a downpour holding off Notre Dame or the excitement and relief of tacking Louisville just short of first down?

Years of winning, climbing to the top of the mountain twice, COVID, and consistent winning have done something to us. We have become complacent. We don’t celebrate the wins as fans, but rather look for areas where we are not perfect. We find flaws and compare this year to that year, or this player to that player.

But we must once again find joy in climbing the mountain. No one stays atop the mountain. Every year, teams work to climb to the top, with all but one failing to reach the summit.

And Saturday give US the opportunity to once again find joy in the climb. Gameday is coming! We are the prime time game on ABC! The entire nation will be watching. We, the sons and daughters of Clemson, once again have the opportunity to write the narrative. What will America see when they tune in on Saturday? Imagine what a completely packed Bowman Field would look like on Gameday. What would the game day atmosphere feel like if we once again had over 200k fans roaming the town? The areas around the valley packed so tightly that the buses struggle to make it around the stadium. What would America think when every corner of the stadium is packed with orange clothed fans as the cameras film the greatest entrance in football? Can you see it?

This is more than a normal Saturday in Clemson. Times like these are rare. The is a call to arms! We must be in attendance. We must be on time for Gameday! We must fill the stadium until the Fire Marshall makes an appearance! We must scream until our voices are gone and clap until our hands go numb.!

This is more than just a normal Saturday. Sons and Daughters of Clemson, this WILL be a revival! Get ready to rejoice.
