I hunted yesterday, couple distant gobbles on the roost, then nothing. Saw a lonely hen. At least we know the birds still exist. The people I know are all in agreement that turkey populations are way down across the state.

As a whole, there is no doubt that the numbers here in SC and across much of the nation are down.

However, on one of the farmer's property that I hunt on, the numbers were better last year and we're seeing more gobblers this year as well, but on my own property they are far and few between.

There's a proposal to cut the limit to 2 in SC as is now the case recently in GA and TN, and has been that way for years in NC and FL.

The long term outlook in SC is not bright with more and more development as more and more people move here.
