Has Brad Brownell been fired yet?

If he keeps losing 2 out of 3 games like he's done over the last week it's not gonna be a good year. Especially if they make the NCAA tournament...when you get into a tournament like that you won't advance very far losing 2 out of 3 games.

Omg, Coach loses one game to one of the best teams in the ACC and you’re calling for his head. This is one of our best years in a loooonnnnnnggggg time, and you want him fired? Clemson basketball is finally finding a rhythm, stop overreacting to a loss against a really good team

I didn't say he lost one game, I said he's lost 2 out of the last 3. Are you going to try to tell me NCSU is one of the best teams in the ACC? Also, I'm still PO'd about that loss to Temple.

Ok, first off NCST is a really tough team to beat at home, if you don’t believe me just ask Duke. Second off Temple was a much better team earlier in the season. They also beat the current 17th ranked Auburn Tigers. All good teams lose games, it’s how they recover that makes them great. So, don’t go complaining about a coach over a bad stretch.

It's pretty special when UNCG and Wofford accomplish something Clemson can't, winning in Raleigh and Chapel Hill.

Just because UNC lost to Wofford, that doesn’t mean they’re a bad team. They obviously overlooked a non power 5 team and weren’t motivated at all. It happen to all good teams. We are a nationally ranked ACC opponent, the motivation level will be WAY higher against us then against Wofford. The crowds energy will be WAY higher against us. Not only that, but UNC has grown as a team a lot since the Wofford loss. The same goes for NCST, they are a much better team now then they were against Greensboro

Come on, you have now tried to justify all 3 losses
Jan 17, 2018, 1:23 PM

based on when we played them. You've said Temple was good when they beat us but got worse sense then but it doesn't matter how they are today because back then they were really good. Then you said NCSU and UNC were bad but now they're good and that's why it's ok to lose to them today even though they got beat by glorified NAIA teams...you know, back before they got gooder. But tell me this, we beat NCSU by 16 points on December 30, then lost to them on January 11. So at what point over that 12 day stretch did NCSU go from being sucky to being good?

hhhmmmmm, I don’t know? I’d say they got better after they beat the second ranked team in the nation DUKE! That serves as a HUGE confidence booster for their team. Also why are you acting like teams can’t get better or worse throughout the season? It happens to every team, some are huge improvements some are subtle improvements.

If you haven’t noticed that pattern is clearly showing their strength at home compared to their strength on the road. It’s a tough place to play, any coach in the ACC would confirm that.

GWP, I have no idea how old you are, but if you wish to complain about CBB, try examining the narrow window of your negative perspective. Three games DO NOT make an entire season! Have you even bothered to look at the whole? BC and NCST both beat Duke! My Wofford Terriers accomplished something I will cherish, but I likely won’t see again in my remaining lifetime.
Coach Brownell hasn’t been perfect, but do you realize he is now fast approaching being second among Clemson BB coaches with ACC and total wins! You need to research Tiger BB before making stupid comments such as this post. Before Bill Foster forty years ago we were horrid! Brownell has finally begun getting top caliber recruits to make our program a competitive program. Last year was not fun, but the team has learned from their mistakes and will continue to improve so enjoy the rest of what should be a very good season and a stepping stone to better seasons ahead.
Go Tigers!

Dabo loses 2 games all season and people are disappointed. Brownell has already lost 3 games and people are like "it's cool, no reason to get upset. UNC lost at home to Wofford but they're such a good team!"
How about NCSU and Temple? Are they "very good?"

The fact that you actually expect to beat one of the best basketball programs in the country is crazy. We are a football school, we haven’t beaten them at their place for a reason. We are nationally ranked, what are your expectations?? For goodness sake, everyone on these boards wants a national contender, but no one is willing to put in the support to make it happen.

Jan 18, 2018, 9:11 AM

Both teams have been equally ranked recently so why is a stretch that I would expect a win? I would certainly expect a better 1st half effort. I guess the crazy part is that being nationally ranked as you put it, that you WOULDN'T expect a win. That's crazy.
And plenty of people are willing to put in the support and have, and continue to do so.

UNC hasn’t lost an ACC home game for 14 straight games, and you expect us to come in there and do something we haven’t done in program history. Everyone acts like it’s just unfortunate that we haven’t ever won there yet. News Flash, it happens for a reason, we are a football school. They’re a basketball school, there is so much more support for their program then there is on our side. I’m not saying we will never win there, but it’s really hard to do so when we can’t get 1/4 of the attention and support that the football team does. Maybe, that’s why it’s so hard for us to recruit, because we can’t even pack the John, that fits 9,000 people.

Re: What does our attendance in Clemson have to do with
Jan 18, 2018, 1:53 PM

Attendance doesn’t necessarily affect how we played tuesday, but it has effected us in the past and it will continue to in the future. It affects recruiting, because nobody wants to play in front of a crowd of 7,000 when they could be playing in front of a crowd of 17,000. It affects players’ confidence, especially when they know they’ve got tens of thousands of Tiger fans cheering them on. Also how is Usuck looking now??, Every now and then teams can make a lucky run. The real challenge is having sustained national success, which the coots clearly don’t have.

The Tigers looked pitiful the first half, maybe the worst I have seen them this year, with unforced turnovers, rushing their shots and missing free throws. After turning it around in the 2nd half, they came up short, running out of gas the last few minutes after digging too big a hole in the first half. That often happens in those situations.
We are still 15-3 and 4-2. Many teams would love to have our record! Let's see how the next couple of weeks go.

GWP, Your narrow focus in BB for a mere three teams against Clemson is almost laughable! You are harping on losses that could have happened to any ACC team! The balance in the conference outside of UVA. is apparent, but your blindness is obvious. I have been following Tiger BB since 1972 and your post is so off base you have no idea how it makes you look to those of us who have witnessed seven coaching tenures with at best mixed success!
Coach Brownell came into a mess following the unexpected departure of Purnell. Finally with a refurbished LJC he is recruiting on a level to compete and all you can do is complain! Get a life! Look at the larger picture and find fault at the end of the season if you must, but until then I suggest being quiet as you have already made a fool of yourself with your original post.
Go Tigers!

You can't blame OP for CBB only making the tournament one time at Clemson. Actually, you basically have to give OP credit for CBB's only appearance in the tournament, since it was his players.
Isn't there a "My Wofford Terriers" internet sports message board somewhere?

Basketball coach comes off a lousy year where he either didn't make a tournament or got bounced in the first round of the NIT by a no-named school from nowhere, but is mysteriously retained by the AD. Said coach starts winning games early the next season, builds up hope in the fans. Even wins some key ACC games that get us really believing. Then reality sets back in throughout the home stretch of conference play, only to either not make a tournament or get bounced in the first round of the NIT by a no-named school from nowhere. But he will be mysteriously retained by the AD. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

How about "screw you until you learn how to spell his name". Are you one of those that will talk smack about our women's team's coach too? Maybe you should make fun of dabo by misspelling his name because he lost to bama. Whatever. Some of you make this board unreadable.

GWP, You are acting rather shortsighted and U need to leave the board before you embarrass yourself any further! Go back in the thread and read earlier posts because you have no clue otherwise how stupid you look. No intent to hurt feelings, but your stubbornness is obvious!
Again, as I teach college students in History one has to put matters into context and you fall far short of knowing of what you spoke by comparison to many posters who have witnessed far worse in Tiger BB!
Come back when you have fully taken stock of our program at the close of the season,
Go Tigers!

Firing is part of the game. You have to come in and want it and Brownell won't take it when it is given/offered. Instead he has been stubborn and takes a loss instead. Look at all the records and stats and stuff. Not good.
I hope this helps but some of you are a lost cause and don't really realize when a good firing is needed. Shame. You are what's wrong with Clemson football.

Your argument here seems to be that because in the past we've been worse than we are now, so we should just accept where we are now and be happy about it.
We've also been a lot better, and that wasn't very long ago. In fact, it was immediately before CBB stepped foot on campus. Hth

GWP, Do you think for one minute I did not recognize Tiger BB has had periods of decent results? You are showing your stupidity by obvious taking out of context what posters herein have already pointed out! I been a Clemson fan and supported IPTAY for multiple years and while Brownell has not measured up to your expectations I again would suggest you view the bigger picture before asking your original question in the first place. Perhaps you cannot grasp that concept, but think before you post, especially when Coach Brownell is clearly aware of what his team is capable of accomplishing.
Have a bit of long term perspective and you might just become a bit wiser and much less concerned over a basketball coach.
Go Tigers!

Coach Brownlee has been here how many years now?
Jan 18, 2018, 12:49 PM
[ in reply to Re: So, Mr "My Wofford Terriers History Professor" ] |

And he has 1 NCAA Tournament appearance to show for it. In his first year. With OP's players. That's it. That is his list of accomplishments. You say he's not meeting my personal expectations, but why is the bar set so low, that coming off NCAA appearances year after year with OP, that everyone else seems to be ok with 1 NCAA Tourney appearance? Oh right, because basketball has always been bad at Clemson so we should just accept it, right? Meanwhile USuCk just made it to the Final Four, and your Wofford Terriers won in Chapel Hill. But at Clemson we shouldn't want to win because historically we haven't. Got it.

There is always one in every crowd that just can’t find anything positive to say! You win the participation trophy for most negative poster on TNET. You are either a miserable person in life or a coot troll and if you are a coot troller I can see why you are such an unhappy person.
Coach Brownell has Clemson BB off to one of its best starts every but you can’t post about that. You have to post about your vision of Clemson BB going forward.
They did not play well the first half but evidently Coach B made adjustments and the team never gave up. Remember not a single Clemson HC has ever won a game on NC’s home court. Not one of them!
