Or any of the other coaches commented on the final snap in the end zone? I haven’t gotten over that yet. There must be a good reason but I can’t imagine what it would be.

The snap was good…

The exchange was good. The RB made it out of the end zone. The RB fumbled at the 1 and it was recovered in the end zone for a safety.
I’m confused as to how this was a formation/coaching issue?

Taking the penalty prior to that play?
I understand trying to get them to jump…but don’t take the penalty. Have a play ready after your hard count fails. Why on earth do you take a penalty on the 2 yard line.

I’m referring to the complaint I’ve been hearing about formation/play call on the safety. If he’s referring to something else here, I misread.

Yeah. I guess in my mind that whole scenario kinda plays out as one big cluster. But the final play was/would have been successful had the freshman RB used better ball security.
But it’s time to move on. We’re about 17 hours from Kick off.
Go Tigers!!!! BEAT STATE!!!!

Dabo said they did that because the penalty is half the distance, which doesn’t amount to anything when you are already in that situation.
I agree with him.

Taking the penalty you are 50% closer to having a safety, bad snap, fumble giving up a touchdown. 50% is a #### of a lot. Not taking snap under center is a mistake. Not having a QB practicing and experienced taking snap from center is a mistake. All of these things are a mistakes but the biggest mistake in my opinion is not recognizing they are mistakes. Which means they will probably be repeated.

Actually,it’s completely a coaching issue.Their scheme does not include formations from under center. Hence, they can’t call the proper safe play to get out of their own end zone. The fact they tried to get the defense to jump offside to bail them out proved that. They basically admitted we are not built for this situation. That’s pretty pathetic coaching in such a simple situation.

And .. isn’t that what coaching is all about - preparing the team (offense) for those type situations? GT dropping back unexpectedly (than TE planned) shouldn’t completely stall an offense for the whole game. Opponents should just switch up their D to different schemes knowing we only prepared for one and TE’s inability to adjust during the game.

Right, it is very difficult to defend decisions that are indefensible. That is by definition why they are called indefensible.

QB Should have been under center to take a direct snap. You should not have to take a snap four yards in the end zone and then hand it off to try to kill the last few seconds in a game. That was a mistake Not having a QB that has been around for 2 years prepared to take a direct snap under center is a mistake.

Because you don't line up in a shotgun formation in your own end zone. The QB takes the direct snap at the 1 yard line and and falls forward .(No handoff exchange or a RB getting the ball 2 or 3 yards deep in the end zone and having to push his way out). And that is how it is both a formation and a coaching issue.

Since they only do shotgun, why didn't DJ just sling it 60 yards!

Weren't there only like 6 seconds remaining? If there was still a second or two remaining, sling it again!

Good thing Craig Nelson is nit Dabo or Shipley woukd have been called a quitter and kicked off the team. Ampipe HS lost the samw way on the same play in 1983 tomloae to their arc rival. Only difference, Shipley recoverd the ball instead of GT. Way tomgo Ship! You are not a quitter! Of course, we did lose Lyn J this week! Hmmmm

I was a bonehead play. To many things could go wrong. A fumble in the end zone could EASILY have lost that game. At best , take the snap and step out of the end zone and give up the safety. If that fumble by the freshman back was cornered by GT our team would have LOST that game and it would be on the coaches. No WAY you can sugar coat that decision.

our football coaches.
They have no problem berating our baseball coach, our basketball coach, our AD, and our president. They are all idiots! But football? They are untouchable to some here. It’s a really interesting phenomenon.

Statistically, QBs are more likely to fumble than RBs.

I’m not saying we couldn’t have done it differently, but blaming the formation seems odd.

99% of coaches would not have done it that way with having a lead and the time remaining in the game. I certainly believe you when you say you do not understand.

No he doesn't care what people think ,at least those on TigerNet, but if the offense doesn't get their heads out of their @$$-hole, come Monday he is going to have to say something as to why Clemson will be playing in the Mienikie Car Crap or Papa John Toilet Bowl instead of going to the Playoff's.
