He may need to be mentally evaluated. Had a buddy’s dad get bit in Chester and that thing messed him up. If his son would not have been in the woods with him I’m not thinking he would have made it because he was unable to get out on his own.

Also, for you folks up around Keowee...I watched a video

Sep 13, 2022, 9:28 AM

yesterday of a guy snake hunting on the north side of Atlanta where canebrakes (timber rattlesnake) live. He showed something I have never seen and really never looked out for. Baby canebrakes were resting up in the trees. They were in short pine trees and small hardwoods 2 to 6 feet off the ground....It gave me pause to think about how I brush past those types of trees showing lots and land a lot of the time in Oconee and norhtern Pickens county...

as soon not remembered. Eons ago, my parents bought a lot on Fountain (Clear) Lake outside Eutawville. We were among the earliest to do so, the lake was largely undeveloped at the time. Taking a walk around the edge of the lake, nearly every little bend we would come to had small cypress or other type trees in the edge of the water. And, when we rounded the corner, mocassins were dropping out of those trees into the water. It certainly did not give me a warm and fuzzy about swimming in the lake.

Of course, within literally a years time, there were house trailers and permanent homes all around the lake, and the snakes were largely displaced.

was in August....When I walked to my stand I had on brand new snake boots AND CHAPS....those local boys wore my A$$ out. Never put'em on again. I would rather die of snake bite than get ribbed like that...

I guess it would depend on how good the path was. If I was hunting some of that swampland down there where the big bucks are I might consider wearing them as much for moccasins as rattlers. First one I ever saw was between 2 tomato fields on Johns Island in probably 1974 or 75. I was 11 or 12 and working with a swing blade to clear a path between the 2 fields. He was 54 inches long and had 14 rattles and a button. When I first saw him he was in thick briars and the only part I could see was where he had just eaten a small rabbit so he was about 3-4 inches in diameter at that spot. I thought this thing was going to be a monster. Needless to say he didn’t see nightfall.
