North Carolina Highway 152 is a 25.5 mile state highway that runs from the west end at NC 150 in Mooresville, crosses US 29, I-85, and US 601 in China Grove, and continues to the east end at US 52 in Rockwell. China Grove makes me think of the Doobie Brothers for some reason.

Back to SC colleges and universities. Coker is a private university in Hartsville, SC. It started out as Welsh Neck High School in 1894, but became Coker College for Women in 1908, named for Civil War veteran Major James Coker who pushed for the conversion. There seems to be a lot of colleges in South Carolina that started as women's colleges; we love our women around here. It became Coker College in 1969 when it became fully coeducational, and Coker University in 2019. Coker has about 1200 students on a 15 acre campus in 29 majors. The athletic teams, the Cobras, compete in NCAA Division II in the South Atlantic Conference. Notable alumni include UNC Charlotte founder Bonnie Cone, poet Terrance Hayes, psychotherapist and post-Vietnam War stress syndrome expert Harvey Hilbert, and MyfavOrange.

Saw them in concert in late 70s in Columbia. They were a great band before Michael McDonald changed there sound completely.

I saw the Doobie Brothers at Clemson in the late '70s. Michael McDonald was already part of the band, but they did some songs from the pre-McDonald setlist.

That was my first concert. The Doobie Bros. I dont really remember the concert, but that was one of earliest memories. I was maybe 5 or 6 and my Mom took me, my brother and sister, to a doubleheader Padre Game vs the Braves at Jack Murphey is San Diego. The Doobies played in between games. It was the 4th of July. My Mom still has pics.

152 - Atlanta Falcons Select Reggie Pleasant with Pick 152 of the 1985 NFL Draft

DB Reggie Pleasant (1981-1984) was not just a great athlete. He is also an impressive person as well. I was fortunate to meet Reggie Pleasant in the late 1980s through a mutual acquaintance. I specifically remember how impressive Pleasant was. He had an infectious-type personality - the kind of personality that drew other people to him easily. (Sadly, I am not sure that he still speaks of that time in the late 80s when he met CBProf.)

While at Clemson:

Pleasant had to walk-on to earn his spot on Danny Ford’s team. ClemsonTigers.com provides the following information regarding Pleasant’s Clemson career:

“Pleasant came to Clemson as a walk-on defensive back in 1981. He became an off-and-on starter in the secondary in 1982 and 1983, then started all 11 games in 1984. Just 5’10” and 175 pounds, Pleasant had 56 tackles and 14 pass breakups in 1984.”

Sports-Reference.com adds that Pleasant registered 5 interceptions for Clemson. He also returned 28 punt returns for 173 yards (6.2 average).

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/reggie-pleasant-1.html

After Clemson:

The Atlanta Falcons selected Reggie Pleasant with the 152nd pick of the 1985 NFL Draft (Sixth Round). The ClemsonTigers.com article cited above offer the following trivia question bet to stump your friends:

“Reggie Pleasant - Defensive Back 1981-84
Do you want to stump someone with a Clemson football trivia question? Who was the last member of Clemson’s 1981 National Championship team to hang up his spikes as a professional football player? No, not “Refrigerator” Perry and not Terry Kinard.

In the spring of 1985, he was drafted in the sixth round by the Atlanta Falcons. He made the Falcons’ roster in 1985, then played for Tampa Bay in 1986. In 1987, he ventured north to the Canadian Football League. He played 10 years in the CFL and was named All-CFL in 1988. He is still the all-time interception leader in the history of the Toronto Argonauts with 47.”

https://clemsontigers.com/clemson-football-game-program-feature-clemsons-greatest-walk-ons/#:~:text=Pleasant%20came%20to%20Clemson%20as,on%20defensive%20back%20in%201981.

Reggie Pleasant played for two CFL teams (Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos) from 1987-1997. StatsCrew.com provides Pleasant’s CFL stats:

CFL Career:
- 477 Tackles
- 48 Interceptions for 783 Return Yards (16.3 Average)
- 1 Interception Return for a Touchdown
- 1 Sack for 9 Yards
- 3 Punt Returns for 0 Return Yards
- 2 Kick Returns for 12 Yards (6.0 Average)

More recently, Reggie Pleasant has been working with the Clemson Football Staff as a Life Coach for the team:
https://clemsontigers.com/clemson-football-family-staff/

Additionally, he also works closely with the Clemson Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)”
https://www.clemsonfca.org/leadership
https://my.fca.org/?form=reggiepleasant

Reggie Pleasant with FCA:

Of note:
According to Tigernet, Clemson named former players Dan Benish and Reggie Pleasant as honorary captains for the opening game in 2015 against Wofford. Both players were with the team in 1981 when the Tigers opened the season with Wofford on their way to a national championship:

“Clemson honorary captains for the opening game against Wofford will be Dan Benish and Reggie Pleasant.

Pleasant played for Clemson during 1981-1984 and played for the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Bucs and also played in the Canadian Football League for eleven years with the Toronto Argonauts and the Edmonton Eskimos.

He is a team advisor at Clemson this year.”

Thank you @CBProf - he's one of those Clemson employees that doesn't get near enough credit for an integral role to our athletes. Most of whom are Christians.
