Virginia State Route 166 is a 15.47 mile state highway that runs from the south end at US 17 in Chesapeake to the north end at US 60 in Virginia Beach. The Chesapeake Bay retriever was developed in the Chesapeake Bay area in the 19th century.
Bob Jones University is a private Christian university in Greenville, SC. started by evangelist Bob Jones in 1927 in Panama City, Florida as Bob Jones College. The school barely survived the early depression years and moved to Cleveland, Tennessee in 1933 where it became the largest liberal arts college in the state 13 years later. Post WWII, the GI bill and increased enrollment led to relocation to a 210 acre campus in Greenville in 1947 where it gained university status with Bob Jones, Jr. as the second prez. BJU has about 3,000 students in 7 colleges and 60 undergrad majors. The athletic teams, the Bruins, formerly in NCAA Division III, now compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association. Notable alumni include Cliff Barrows, Tim LaHaye, and SC Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver.

166 - Clelin Ferrell Made 166 Clemson Tackles

DL Clelin Ferrell (2015-2018) was one of Clemson’s “Power Rangers.” They were a highly decorated bunch! Ferrell was major contributor on two National Title teams for the Tigers!
Before Clemson:
Ferrell has clarified how he got his first name. The Greenville News gives Ferrell’s explanation: “Three times a reporter mispronounced his name at his NFL combine news conference Saturday, and three times Clelin Ferrell politely corrected him.
“I try to do it every time it happens,” Ferrell said. “Not trying to be just an a-hole, but I take a lot of pride in the end. I want to kind of change the narrative. Cause I get it. It is spelled like Clelin with a (soft) ‘e.’ But I just want to, hopefully if I keep playing well more people will really learn it and I won’t have to do that anymore.”
Ferrell said his first name – pronounced CLEE-lin – is derived from family tradition.
His father’s name was Cleavester. His oldest brother is Cleavester Jr. He has a sister named Cleta, and another brother named Cleavon.
“I don’t know if this is true or not, but my sister Cleta told me that my dad’s great uncle, his uncle was Cleophis and they were considering naming me Cleophis,” Ferrell said. “So thank God they didn’t name me that. Thank you. That would have been bad. That would have been bad.”

At Clemson:
According to ClemsonTigers.com, Ferrell’s stat highlights were as follows:
Redshirted the 2015 season before a prolific run as a three-year starter from 2016-18 … completed college career with 166 tackles, 50 tackles for loss, 27.0 sacks, 51 quarterback pressures, seven pass breakups and five caused fumbles in 2,167 snaps over 44 games (all starts) … left Clemson as only the second two-time, first-team AP All-American and the school’s first such player since 1981-82 … despite playing only three seasons, his 44 starts were the most by any defensive end/outside linebacker in school history … ranked tied for fourth in Clemson history with 27 career sacks, tied with William “Refrigerator” Perry

Impressive stats for sure!!
He could have turned pro after his redshirt sophomore season. Yardbarker explains why he didn’t:
“Ferrell could have gone pro after his redshirt sophomore season in 2017. But he chose to return to Clemson, in part to honor his father Cleavester, who died of cancer when Ferrell was a high school freshman.
"Me graduating from college, that would be huge for him," Ferrell said, per the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "His dad pulled him out of school to work on the farm. That's when school became really, really big for him. He really tried to push that emphasis on me."
Ferrell's father was a Vietnam veteran and was described by Ferrell in 2022 as a model American.
"He was the head of our family," Ferrell told Raiders.com. "He was someone who was the ultimate role model as far as being a father, someone who was the ultimate man in his community, regardless of whether the community was good or bad. He's someone that I feel like is a true definition of what an American should want to be.”

Specifically for his senior season, the ClemsonTigers.com article (as cited above) added the following:
2018: Won the Ted Hendricks Award, awarded to the nation’s top defensive end … Bednarik Award semifinalist … consensus first-team All-American, earning selections by AFCA, AP, Sporting News and Walter Camp … with the AP selection, became Clemson’s first two-time, first-team AP All-American since Terry Kinard in 1981-82 … ACC Defensive Player of the Year … first-team All-ACC … unanimous first-team AP All-ACC selection and earned AP ACC Defensive Player of the Year…voted as a permanent team captain … credited with 53 tackles (19.5 for loss), 11.5 sacks, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries including one recovered for a touchdown in 691 snaps in 15 games (all starts)

Sports-Refernece.com provided Ferrell’s stats by year as follows:
2015: (Redshirted) - 1 Tackle (1 Solo, 0 Assisted) 2016: - 44 Tackles (21 Solo, 23 Assisted)
2017: - 66 Tackles (33 Solo, 33 Assisted)
2018: - 55 Tackles (29 Solo, 26 Assisted) - 1 Fumble Return for Touchdown
Clemson Career (2015-2018): - 166 Tackles (84 Solo, 82 Assisted) - 1 Fumble Return for Touchdown

Ferrell taking down Tua on 4th Down as Clemson clamps down on another National Title:
After Clemson:
The Oakland Raiders selected Clelin Ferrell with the 4th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. After one season in Oakland, Ferrell moved with the team to Las Vegas. He played four seasons with the Raiders (1 in Oakland, 3 in Vegas) before playing for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023. According to Pro-Football-Reference.com Ferrel has put up the following stats in his 5 NFL seasons:
- 133 Tackles (73 Solo, 60 Assisted) - 21 Tackles for Loss (TFL) - 3 Forced Fumbles - 2 Fumble Returns
