Memory lane the last several days for me.
In high school, my house was a stone's throw from the intersection of Route 234 and Route 1. My high school is located between that house and Route 234. At least one other Tnetter attended that high school, but I don't recall that Tnetters handle.

234 - In 1952, Don King Set Clemsons Freshman Rushing Record at 234

Clemson football freshman Don King (not the boxer promoter Don King) was obviously quite the star player. His 234 yards at Fordham is still:
– The Clemson freshman record for rushing yardage in a game
– The Clemson rushing record in an away game
– The third most rushing yardage in Clemson history for any player in any game
“The native of Anderson, SC played for the Tigers and Head Coach Frank Howard from 1952-55 as a quarterback and tailback. On November 4, 1952 he rushed for 234 yards in a tie game at Fordham, the last time Clemson has played a football game in New York City.
Fordham entered the game leading the nation in rushing defense. King played the tailback position in this game because of injuries to Clemson’s regular running backs. It was the only game King played tailback in his Clemson career. It is still the third most rushing yards in a single game by any Clemson back and a record for a Clemson player in a road game.
King led the Tigers in passing for four straight years and in rushing in 1953. He was the first Clemson player to lead the Tigers in passing four consecutive years. It is an accomplishment that has been equaled only by Nealon Greene (1994-97) and Charlie Whitehurst (2002-05) since.”

“With 6,000 fans in attendance according to the stat sheet of the day, Clemson jumped out to a 12-0 lead behind King. Fordham was not prepared for King’s running ability, as he had touchdown runs of 74 and 66 yards in the first quarter. I can’t remember any Tiger back having two touchdown runs of 66+ yards in a quarter, not even C.J. Spiller. King finished the first half with 240 yards, still the most rushing yards in a half in school history.
The Tigers had 262 rushing yards in the first half and should have had a bigger lead than just 12-0, because Fordham lost three fumbles in the first half. Unfortunately, Clemson missed both extra points, one that was blocked and one that was wide left.”

“King set the record for most rushing yards in a single contest when he gained 234 against Fordham in 1952, which is a freshman record. King actually had 240 yards rushing in the FIRST HALF...but a hurt knee had him lost 6 yards in the 2nd half...moving his total down to 234.
That was the only game he was a starting tailback.
King led the team in passing all four years at Clemson and even led the team in rushing in 1953. He paced the team in rushing, passing, punting, and punt returns in 1953.”
