Yeah, OK. I'd still kick it and wait and see if they did get a FG. I'm not going to go for two unless it helps me in the current situation. I kick until I actually need the 2.

I doubt there are many coaches who would go for 2 in that situation. If you don't get it, you're likely screwed.

Surely Diptoola could make a good argument for it. I just can't imagine what that argument would be. He'd make the case with a great deal of conviction, though.

The idea, to me, is to extend the game as long as possible. Keep yourself as close as possible unless it would be dumb not to (late in the game to get within 3 instead of 4, or tie the game, etc). But to get within 4 instead of 5? What does that improve? You gain a good bit getting within 5 (a FG doesn't make it a 2 score game, a TD wins it for you even without the XP). But what does 4 get you?

Not converting now means a FG puts the game away. Takes away any chance at all.
It also means you have to hit the XP if you score a TD now.
Extend the game, always

Just saying that the main issue is not converting it. I agree with waiting until you absolutely need too though.

You didn't have to. The game didn't dictate that eventually you'd need to. So why do it?
This wasn't a case of being down 15 and knowing eventually you need to score a 2 pt conversion.
Getting within 4 gets you nothing that getting within 5 doesn't. Unless you worry about your kicker, there is zero reason to take the 50% risk of the point when xp's are like a 95% certainty. The risk gets you nothing in game advantage

I realize you won't have to go for 2 on the next score if they get a field goal, but considering they missed it a field goal would have put the game out of reach.
