in action near Metz and the Moselle River in September 1944 after earlier graduating at Clemson College in Textile Engineering and being President of his Class.
Henry was from Greenwood and quickly became a Tank Commander with Patton’s famous 3rd Army (as my Dad was as a lowly tank machine gunner)..
having commanded his unit across the Utah & Omaha beach fronts and then pressed inland to help in the freeing of many small French villages that were under German control.
When he was killed his unit was helping the 5th Infantry Div to establish a bridgehead but encountered extreme German fire, so they retreated temporarily about a half-mile away, where he died.
He is buried in Lauren’s SC and left his Mother & 3 brothers, one serving in Guam.
R.I.P, brave young Tiger and a crisp Clemson salute for your service, valor & life~
