How bad do we have to beat Duke

for you to feel like we are off to a good start? For me, anything less than 17-21 pts. would leave me a little deflated vs. my expectations. A win is a win and that is all that matters but 31-14 or 38-17 just "feels" better than 31-21.

You can't judge after one week because you won't know how good or bad our opponent was until you see each team play a few games. But, I know what you mean. I, for one, am expecting us to hand them a good whooping

I have pretty high expectations for this team but perhaps they are too high for the first game. I just feel like we have so much talent ready to "git after it" that we should win handily, even it is the first game.

First
I expect us to win. If we win by a safety or a field goal I will be glad.
Second
For us to win by less than 14 points I will be concerned about where we are top ten. top 25 or further down the wabbitt hole.

The key is a victory but I'd agree that a victory of 21 or more would be a very good sign on the road against an experienced team.

I think we win, but calling Duke inexperienced is a disservice. They have one of the most experienced rosters in the country, coming off a 9 win season.

I said earlier today that what I really want to see is the defense shut them down and not allow more than 10 points and would feel really good if their TD comes in garbage time. Also said I don’t care if we win 14-10 or 44-10 if the defense holds them to 10 or less. That being said, twice now, anything better than 27-10 would make me feel pretty good.

It's not about score as much it is about eye test.

Does the line move people? Does the QB extend plays or shorten them? Does the defense have busts? Can we cover receivers? Can we tackle? Can the offense stay on the field? Can we make field goals?
As long as we win... I care about the above things more than the score margin.

And remember they played in the Coastal Division. So you say they didn't play Clemson or FSU. They won't play them most seasons before because not in the same division. They did give the two best teams in the coastal scares, and probably should have won both (UNC and Pitt) and beat Wake. Yeah nobody is saying their world beaters, but decent and if make a lot of mistakes in the first game, could keep it very close...

Duke isn’t a pushover by any means-this isn’t the Duke of old. Much respect to all their returning players and coaches. I suspect it’s somewhat close in the 3rd but hopefully wear them down throughout the 2nd half! Just win baby!

I feel score is important but I believe how is more important. We need a total domination on both offense and defense. Put everyone on notice that Clemson has not gone away, is not cycling out, and the ROY bus is back.

I want to see a polished offense and a lockdown defense part of the time, enough so that we win the game.
I want to see the players struggle part of the time so they won't get the big head and walk away thinking they've arrived. It will humble them with the joy of a win and allow the coaches to ride them like a rented mule next week.
I know, I'm a cold hearted buttwhole but that's exactly how Dabo likes it. History shows that to be true and accurate.
That is what's best for our team, what's most pleasing to Dabo and it drove me to xanax the first five or six years Dabo did it. At first I was frustrated, then got mad when I recognized it was happening. Finally, I took to the bit in my mouth and let Dabo hold the reigns, as if I had a choice in the matter.
Get over it, if we blow Duke out it will be because they folded or due to our backups being better than their starters, not because it was Dabo's intent.
