How is a successful season defined in the following situations?

Clemson Football? I say ACC champ and minimum semifinalist in CFP.
Clemson Men's Soccer? I say ACC champ and minimum quarterfinalist.
Men's Baseball. ACC champ and make it to Omaha.
Women's softball. ACC champ and super regionals.
Men's basketball. Middle of pack in ACC. Maybe get one game in NCAA tournament???
I think that is a result of years of mediocrity. Is it even realistic that we win the ACC title in the next 5 years?

I am a huge Clemson football fan, but expecting to be in the CFP semifinals every year isn’t realistic.

Especially in this new day and age of college football.

So, you think we have to finish minimum Top 4 every year in football to be able to call it a successful season? Prepare for a fair amount of disappointment if that is your bar.
I’d say any year we make the playoffs is a successful year.

Slw - good point and probably a better way of stating my original comment. At the start of any given season, what’s the realistic goal the fans should have to say “that was a good year”. Agree - we will not beba top 4 team EVERY year, but in football for the last 9 years, that’s been a reasonable expectation for Dabo and Co and for us as fans. Similar for those goals in baseball, soccer, etc. Point is that the season by season expectations and realistic aspirations are MUCH higher in other sports than basketball.

For football I think winning the ACC and making the expanded playoffs would qualify as successful although if we end up never winning a playoff game ever again that would obviously be a blemish on the program.

This defines the standard! Expectations have changed in football. I remember when beating the chickens and making a bowl game, any bowl game was considered success. Dabo changed that narrative. Baseball, Bill Wilhelm set that standard, and Jack Legget upheld for a while, but yes, Omaha or bust is the Clemson standard. Basketball... well, not sure there has ever been a standard set at Clemson, and that's a shame! All I can say is this, 14 years of opportunity has not set a standard!

Is there a women’s baseball team or a men’s softball team? Otherwise, unless you are slow, why not just say baseball and softball since these clearly define the singular option?

Also, are you referring to men’s or women’s football?

Well considering never happened before, recruiting has not moved to elite levels, and current roster is about to turn over...
Nope. Less 20% chance to win ACC in next five years.

Anything less is underachieving.
