Starting lineup for 22-23 season

Jul 12, 2022, 8:09 AM

Now that our lineup is pretty much set, why are your expectations for starting lineup? Here's mine....

PG: Chase Hunter Backup: Josh Beadle
SG: brevin Galloway backup: Hemenway
SF: RJ Godfrey Backups: Hunter Tyson/chase Hunter/Brevin gallloway
PF: Hunter Tyson backup: Schefflin
C: PJ Hall Backup: middlebrooks

We have great depth out of our PF/C position. This will help greatly in case PJ Hall is not 100% by the time the season rolls around or if he gets into foul trouble.

We need RJ Godfrey or Wiggins ready to start at SF. RJ already has the physicality and he's also a great dribbler and passer. I expect him to fill in nicely as a role player.

This brings us to our back court. I really like chase hunter starting at PG. he is the most athletic player on our team. At the end of the year, when he overtook honor on our starting lineup, he was our best creator and distributor. Hopefully brevin Galloway is 100%, but I expect him to average 9-12 ppg.

Overall I think our starting lineup is solid. We can't have any significant injuries.

Apparently nobody wants to talk about our basketball team unless it's bashing brownell. Sad....

Lol.

The team still needed a lot of help from a experienced big wing or lead guard that Llewlyn would have brought the team. Never addressed that one key spot they had in the portal.

Brad has never had a really good season without some experiencec guards and see a lot of question marks there.

Not the only one, as 247 just released the latest power ratings and Clemson is at the lower end of the 15 teams.

What exactly was funny about my post?

Why didn't answer my question and instead b!tch and moan about brownell and the talent on our team?

It sucks that Llewellyn decommitted. Why do you continue to have to talk about him?

Do you not think Chase Hunter could step up and be a PG next year? He certainly has the athleticism and he is the best creator on the team. He averaged almost as many assists as Dawes even though he didn't start at PG and he only started half the year.

How do you think the combination of Chase Hunter and Brevin Galloway compares to Dawes and Honor?

Chase Hunter has never been the lead guy at guard before. He came on in the second half of the season, but can he be a go to guy in the crunch, without Dawes and Honor remains to be seen. Galloway has never been consistent at this level also. Can both those guys and Tyson and PJ stay healthy for a whole season?

Like the potential of Godfrey and Gibson a lot, but they are still going to be freshmen.

Still don't know why they didn't use the last spot for a quality transfer on a big wing like Collins , but maybe they couldnt get one with Brad on the hotseat?

You are correct, Hunter has never been a starting PG at this level. However he has exhibited passing skills and ball handling at the college level. He will always be one of the most athletic on the court and he is a good distributor. Honor was never consistent either and he didn't have the excuse of injuries. Neither daws or honor took over a game last year like Galloway did against us. He has tremendous potential, he just needs to stay healthy.

It looks like we were in the final 2-3 with many transfers and unfortunately we didn't get them. It wasn't or a lack of trying.

however, I do feel like this could be a pretty good year for us, and I hope it is!

I dont mind anybody that has the opinion that brownell should be fired. I think we have to perform this upcoming year or there is a great chance he will be fired.

What annoys me is people that think we can just plug in a coach and magically become a consistent top 4 team in the ACC. It also bugs me when people brag about how good Purnell was and detract from brownell's accomplishments.

The ACC was stronger overall when OP was here. They played ranked teams seemingly every other week when he was here. There was a time in 2021 when ACC only had one ranked team in top 25. The ACC had some teams in and out all season but we often barely had a top 10 team in the ACC until later in Season when Duke was consistently up there.

CBB would have worse ACC record if played in the same era. OP had a more exciting brand of bball, put better talent or at least better coached players and was more competitive with top teams. Whiles the numbers don't necessarily prove my argument but just look at the fan turnout and the students that followed OP's teams vs the attendance recent years.

Just hard to get excited to watch decent teams that get put coached in the last 5min and lose. How many heartbreaks were last season and prior? Too many. It was time for CBB to have been replaced even if he is a great man and great mentor, he isn't great and finishing games.

Since you went there...

Purnell keeps looking better and better to many the longer Brad is here. It was a better atmosphere and we were fun to watch. Early on I thought Brad was an improvement as he brought a more conventional coaching style that could seize on the momentum OP had built up for us with three straight NCAA appearances and turn the corner. I was wrong though and am okay admitting it.

I am happy to say that I was a fan of CBB. But I am happy to say I am happy to be a fan of CTBowden also. Great ppl, great mentors, moved the programs in the right direction. At the point they leave or left, the program is in better shape than it was.

But thats picking perfectly ripe grapes. When new coach comes in, he wont just ride the wave, he will make changes that better the program. I see a difference in our new coach that has players fighting to be on his team vs players transferring. I see guys that seem to avg the big 6'4" 220lb pitchers versus 5'9" or 6'7" that weighs 180lbs. I just see players that fit the mould of players.

I am just forecasting that this is his last year and we will get talent, and we will get players that meet the mould and not short, not skinny tall, but players that love the program for multiple years, not just one.

Collins was my favorite transfer to date, but I want players that want to be here for 4yrs, not 1yr and done because eligibility is gone.

Same.

That decision was made though, so I’ll be ready to cheer my Tigers on this coming season.

Hoping for the best, as always. Happy we're getting this new mix together for some valuable pre-season practice and action overseas in August.

Go Tigers!

I like your starting lineup a lot.

Jul 14, 2022, 4:26 PM

I agree that Chase Hunter and Braden Galloway are the logical starters in the backcourt, with Beadle and Hemenway getting minutes off the bench. I'll also be interested to see if Brownell goes bigger sometimes and plays Chauncey Gibson in the backcourt. His fast development there could really help us.

Of our three freshmen, R.J. Godfrey seems to be the one most likely to get significant minutes early on. He could very well start at the 3. If Brad wants to go bigger, we could start Hunter Tyson at the 3, with PJ Hall and Middlebrooks starting at PF and C respectively. That lineup would not be as good against super athletic front lines, but it could also cause other teams a lot of problems with the size and versatility.

I anticipate that your front line of Godfrey, Tyson, and Hall will be the typical starting front line for us.

Thanks for the basketball post. It's too bad that most of the basketball posts here are either whiny posts or bad attempts at humor.

I like it, but I think we start the season this way:
Hunter
Galloway
Hemenway
Tyson
Hall

I think we end the season this way:
Hunter
Hemenway
Tyson
Schefflin
Hall
