and her good friend. They were at a local pool yesterday in Columbia where a large number of people were in attendance. She noticed a young boy at the bottom of the pool and alerted the lifeguard. Her friend got her mother who got the boy out of the water. After several minutes of CPR, the boy was revived. He was taken to a local hospital and we just found out he is going to make a full recovery. I am so happy for the boy and his family and so proud of my daughter and her friend for being attentive and doing what they were supposed to do and helping to save a life.

The lifeguards I’m not so sure about.

I didn't see an option for heroic acts by your offspring. I should have looked more closely.

Makes me proud of the two of them myself. Need more like them. So glad the young boy is recovering, God bless them all.

She and her friend did a fantastic job. You should be proud as the boy may not have made it without their quick reaction.

As a former lifeguard and pool manager, this makes me sick. The lifeguards, plural because they should have overlapping coverage, should have noticed it. Anytime a patron has to draw a lifeguards attention they have failed in their 1st, 2nd & 3rd responsibility, and that is on management.

We rarely go to public pools, but when we do my wife has to calm me down. I mostly see irresponsible lifeguarding.

I will say that, in his defense, my ER surgeon friend said that she has seen doctors and nurses who have received much more training than a lifeguard and were more advanced in years freeze early in their careers in similar situations. She said it would not be uncommon, and should even be expected, for a teenage lifeguard to not react they way we might expect or hope they would.

This reminds me of the last time I went to a public pool.

I got the urge and decided to pee in the deep end. The lifeguard noticed and starting blowing his whistle so loud it scared me to the point where I almost fell in.

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

Your daughter wins the coveted Caring Award with my hard won TNet coins for her bravery. Now get her out of Columbia and into the upstate.

Thank you. I dont know where she will end up. But, I was born here almost 53 years ago, and I think this is where I will be forever. My mom is here and I love it. Are there things that could be better? Of course. Would I move here if I wasn't from here? Probably not. But, it's home.
