I think Bret will confirm that it could be true because he made a post recently that hinted at this and lamented this part of the portal.

Yep, hopefully Bret will chime in. It’s a shame if it’s true.

First, this poster is the one who was the source of all the rumors of FSU leaving the ACC for the B1G last week.

2nd, he is wrong in this sense - Patrick Payton tweeted that he intended to enter the portal last week. He never did. A couple of days later he took down his tweet. As of now, he has not entered the portal.

Speculation is one of two things happened.
1. FSU collective offered him a deal for 2024. He thought he was worth more so he said he would leave if they didn't meet his demand. Then, he checked around and found out he wasn't worth as much as he though he was. So, he decided to stay.
OR
2. FSU collective agreed to raise their offer to him so he stayed.

Rodney Hill apparently has entered the portal, but I'm not sure about that.

Speculation is one of two things happened.
1. He looked around at the RB room and sees a crowded room where he will be getting some of the carries, but not as much as he can get if he goes somewhere where he is clearly #1 guy.
OR
2. He asked for an amount to stay at FSU and FSU didn't think he was worth the price so they wished him well as he sought employment elsewhere.

I have no idea what is going on with anybody when it comes to negotiations between players and collectives. I'm only telling you what I am hearing from folks who should know more about it than me, and even they admit they are just guessing.

It would be similar to someone speculating on "the real reason" Mukuba left Clemson and signed with Texas. Lots of speculation, but nobody really knows except the people who actually did the negotiations and made the decision.

In a few years there will probably be some sort of sanity return to college football. Not a lot, but at least more than we have now.

But, until then, the portal/NIL situation is making recruiting/roster management more absurd than the Hall of Mirrors at the carnival. I have no idea how any coach can have any idea of the proper way to manage it.

I say that the NIL with the portal working hand in hand, it has become a malignant tumor for the patient, College FB, and if it isn't delt with quick by the Dr, NCAA, college FB may have if lucky, 5-10 years left before it dies!!!

Me, Myself, and I knew that without a doubt that something like what is happening now in college was going to get very ugly without any hard set rules with the Portal and the NIL working hand in hand with the schools that has the best opportunities for bringing the huge checks of NIL money, and then with the portal working without any deterrence that would limit the amount of transfers these elite players have for chasing the bigger NIL money!!!

College football.it truly is over. It is one thing to get paid and quite another to just have full on greed that shows that none of these players really care who they play for. They are taking the sport that was there for them and destroying it. Once the fans give up in it, there will be nothing for the players. NFL or nothing. No free education, no college memories. And there was no leadership to guide it through this. Just pure greed all the way up to the conference commisioners, networks and schools.
Opt outs, transfers. The transfers were supposed to be for players who sought more playing time, not NIL shopping. The average fan knows its over, but does not want to admit to himself or herself yet.

highly educated citizens, as we boast, could have allowed these issues to emerge and thrive.

We've taken a sport we love and turned it into a grotesque monster conceived and nurtured from the nether regions, thereby ushering in chaos, confusion and consternation egged on by cupidity to the point that passionate fans are having doubts about the game itself.

Meanwhile, more openminded folks are considering the Ivies' stance: no bowls, no participation in the chase for titles. Their fans simply enjoy age-old rivalries ten times each season, after which they go home and enjoy other interests.

Don’t play this NIL PORTAL game. Walk away from it.

Take the game BACK to what it was intended from it’s inception.

There is NO FUN for alumni, fans, or most of the players for that matter with the state of the money grap between teams.

The start of the season will become a fan attitude of “well, who did they buy, convince, swindle, manipulate, coerce, or black male to field a team and how far can they go?”

NIL was intended to center on legitimate brand sponsorships for student athletes, not merely facilitating player payments through collectives. It's about forming authentic partnerships with recognized brands. This is not NIL.
