Gamecock men’s tennis up to #2 in the country

Their highest ranking ever after dominating #4 Ohio State last week. The gamecocks have been a top 10 program for a few years now and this year they are a legit national title contender.
(Clemson men’s tennis has missed the NCAA tournament for 7 straight years and will likely be 8 after the season)
Gamecock coach, Josh Goffi, played at Clemson from 1998-2001 and graduated from here.
Would be like Terrell McIntyre turning gamecock men’s basketball into a powerhouse. Except the difference is, Goffi never was given a chance to coach at Clemson. Was an assistant at Duke before going to SC.

And they are doing it after their #1 player (Daniel Rodrigues from Portugal) from last year elected to go pro rather than come back for a final season.

I believe he feels a bit slighted by Clemson from the early 2010s

Period when he could have been considered and when he went to SC.
The question was asked a lot when Clemson was looking for a coach around 2016, but Goffi was adamant that he and his family were gamecocks now and how Columbia was home. He has embraced them and they like him.
Plus with SEC money Im sure they would be willing to pay a lot more if need be as some other historic programs that are down right now, like UCLA, may look his way

issue. We have millions more we throw at our football coach and our sports revenues are currently very similar.
I can understand hard feelings.

Are the upgraded tennis facilities not paying any divideds for recruiting?

Nothing substantial so far

Our recruiting class in 2021 was ranked highly by “tennisrecruiting” but that site used some flawed ranking analysis and is not good at determining the level of international players. Also one of our blue chips from that class already transferred to Purdue.
The new indoor facility is great and light years better than the old one. However I would actually argue that the upgrades have made the outdoor courts experience slightly worse for the fans.

Since he would've been AD if time frame is right on what you said, TIP.
Is a shame someone so close to Clemson is building the enemy up & that apparently the bridge was burned in process. Would love to see our Olympic sports teams become competitive again both in the in-state rivalry & nationally

Want all Clemson sports to do as best as possible.
Just in the instance of the Clemson-SC rivalry, the Olympic sports has been where they've done their most damage over the last decade or so & have swept the Palmetto Series competition every year contested.
The resurgence of football & men's soccer, along w/ softball starting so strong out the gate, has helped soften up the sting. But let's be honest, the overall slate of athletics at Clemson has underperformed compared to both our neighbors in the Midlands as well as with our ACC stablemates for a hot minute.

6 of 9 players on their roster are not from the US…

I couldn’t care less about a sport handing out 2 out of 3 scholarships to foreign students to win a championship that will be watched by 75 people sitting in 3 rows of bleachers at Cary Tennis Park (less than a mile from my house).

they have never been in Cary.
I couldn't care less where the players are from. Many internationals come to the US to play college tennis and they end up embracing the American and college culture and fall in love with it. I worked with several such players when I was worked with the Clemson team when I was in school.
