Would have had a better showing in the Orange Bowl IF
The coaches had not announced in advance that Klubnik would be the starter. Once he announced the change DJ quit and UT prepared to play a QB who had never started a college game. Everyone with a brain knew UT was going to “bring the house” on every snap and they did. That was a tough way to get the new guy started. After the championship game the Tigers should have used the same strategy and let DJ start with a game plan in place for CK to take over. We made it to easy for UT, a very good team,to prepare for the Orange Bowl.

Clearly a case of "We can't win..." for the coaching staff.
So, did UT WIN the game or did Clemson LOSE the game?

If I understand correctly and it really makes no sense, Dabo said DJ couldn't be with the team because he was gonna transfer. There sure were alot of players on the other teams that played and then transferred!

DJ was going to leave it didn’t have to be announced. In fact, Dabo could have released a statement saying DJ was still the starter. UT had no way of knowing how the Tigers would prepare for this game. I think that the Tiger should have played the Bowl game as they did the championship game. Start DJ and if things didn’t go well, pull him after one series. DJ running out on the team made this game to easy for the Vols. I know most of you still have an affection for DJ but when he left he became a member of shyat list forever.

Dabo wouldn’t have made it to the orange bowl and tigernets servers would have melted down.

season, we would have at least put up a better fight against UT.
I don't believe we would have lost to the Gamecocks and would have put up a better fight against ND.
But all that's pure speculation, highly debatable and water under the bridge.
Anxious to see how Cade gels with his teammates, especially under our new OC next season.

If DJ wanted to get into a new school and program before the Spring semester he would have needed to be in the portal before the bowl game. I think it was always his intent to transfer after this year unless the season went exceedingly well for him. It is possible that he could have played in the bowl game and delayed his transfer decision until the summer but that would not have been an ideal scenario for him if he really hopes to start in the Fall with a new team.
So, I don't think waiting for an announcement was really in the cards but I would agree the quick change to Cade took any doubt out of DJ's decision.

Why give your opponent the advantage that we have UT? IF Clemson had a real strong running game it would be different but they Did Not.
UTs only task was to pressure the new QB. They did that exceedingly well.
I hope we can establish a good rush game in the off season!

As I said, from my perspective they had no choice because DJ needed to get into the portal and find a team. Had he played and/or waited until January for an announcement, many of his better options would have most likely been filled. He didn't have that many good options to begin with so now he would be waiting for the Spring portal to open and see what other openings might become options.
Delaying an announcement just wasn't an option for what DJ needed to do for himself and I don't think Dabo had a problem with that. Dabo said earlier in the season that DJ was graduating in December and that he and DJ had a plan for his future and I think it played out pretty much as they both expected it would.

It seems we couldn’t (didn’t) adjust to their blitz’s. They brought it, we didn’t block it or scheme around it. We’ll do better this year with our new OC.

DJ was going to enter the portal after the game. I don’t know how I missed that. I assumed he left early because he wasn’t the starter any more.

As I said, Dabo had signaled a plan early in the season. I think if DJ had a great season he would have entered the draft and if not he would head to a program with an offense that was a better fit for his skills.
It turned out to be the latter. Either way, it appears this was always going to be his last season at Clemson. I don't know if we will ever know for sure but maybe it will come out at some point.

UT played defence that every time the running back split out or went in motion their defence blocked our guards to open a clear path to CK2. Watch any replay. Their defencive line controled our line this way. Cade was doomed every time. Go Tigers! Learn from this.
