here is a little mind exercise to show you what a fool you are: Say we were still in the BCS era with only two teams getting in. Do you think Michigan and Washington, both undefeated, would have made the final 2? No. Of course not. The narrative would have been painted that one spot goes to the winner of the SEC Championship game because…who knows why but they would have explained it to you ad infinitum. Unless Alabama was not in the SEC Championship game. Then they would have been contorting some other way for Bama to bypass the conference championship and slide in if so and so did this and those over there did that. Just like they did in 2011.

So your “mind exercise” falls apart when you’re shown data that makes it not work, and you make up a conspiracy about how they would have gotten around it.

Did you live through the BCS era? That’s exactly how it worked. The only time an SEC team has ever been screwed was when Auburn was left out of the BCS in 2004. Do you think Bama was pretty happy about that? The only time a team that didn’t even win its division within its conference and sat home risking nothing while the team that beat them (LSU) had to play in and win the SEC championship game just to have to go back and play a team they beat was Bama in 2011. Do you think these opportunities just keep randomly presenting themselves all in favor of one program through the years?

If it was the old days and you looked at the AP Poll where the coaches voted, it would have been Michigan and Washington because those are the first 2 teams in the AP poll as of today.
