Now they want to add a penny tax for county roads. Does that mean the gas tax didn't go to any county roads? I guess that's what it means.

You’re in rural Anderson. I’m in rural Nashville. Is it or is it not surprising that premium is $.80 more there? It was to me and that’s all I’m saying. I’m not insulting your family lineage or anything as defensive as you’re getting about it.

Who knows. As for the gas tax, most people don't understand the problem we have in SC.
See, for oh, about 20 YEARS, NC and GA had higher gas taxes, and they used that money on roads, and their roads are FAR better than SC has. So, in order to "fix" the problem, we raised our gas tax, overriding Gubnah Mack Master's veto. Now this was sold as the solution. Raise the tax to equal GA and NC, and our roads will improve to their level. Doesn't work that way. All raising gas taxes does, effectively, is stops our decline relative to our neighboring states. It does NOTHING to catch us up to their level. For us to catch up to their level, we would have to have a gas tax ABOVE their current gas tax, relative to the level we were once UNDER it, and then, in 20 years, our roads would match theirs.
Now to Gubnah Mack Master's credit, he has blown the majority of our covid relief on roads, which gives us a big boost towards catching up. But aside from that, the tax we have on gas alone will never get us there.

I just replaced my third windshield on my car. The THIRD.

On the same car. Each time, it was from rocks flying up from a crumbling interstate. I-26 north of the construction mess up to Newberry is horrible for rocks flying up. The interstate is cracking, has pot holes, and trucks kick up debris all the time in that area. I JUST GOT A DING AGAIN yesterday, same area of interstate where I got the last crack.
Now they have repaved the worst parts, and the new pavement is rougher than the old pavement, but at least rocks aren't flying up anymore. It's a sad contractor who did that work, whoever it was. And before they repaved a couple of miles of it, I would usually see 2, 3, sometimes 4 or 5 cars over in the emergency lane with flat tires after hitting potholes.
I-95 was repaved in concrete, maybe 10-15 years ago. It's horrible now. After every slab, there's a dip that is cracking and creating huge holes.
Part of our problem is also using sub-par contractors who cut corners.
Oh, and Carolina Crossroads is still dead in the water until they can figure out the most important part, again. Seems when planning the 1.whatever billion dollar project they forgot to take into account moving utilities and infrastructure. So they've started building bridges and roads to connect into a project that's dead in the water. Nice.
Oh, and I-26 was going to be finished ahead of schedule, giving the contractor a nice bonus too. Gubnah Mack Master and the head of SCDOT even used the project as a stage for a photo-op and press conference. They gushed about how well the project was coming along, and under budget and ahead of schedule. Like 2-3 days later SCDOT sends an inspector out who rips the contractors, then adds all kinds of stuff they were not planning to do, to slow the project down. Of course this was after the press conference. No doubt SCDOT wants to slow things down as much as possible to avoid paying the extra $$$ for early completion.

2 windshield replacements here in the last 20 years. The last a rock flew off the back of a trailer and wasn't from debris already in the road.

But yesterday was hearing the dings again on the brand new windshield, from debris from the road.
I purposefully stay way back from dump trucks and flatbeds. Still, the regular semi trucks can somehow kick up rocks and I don't even tailgate or stay close to them.
I dunno. Maybe windshields suck more now.

I started monitoring this site when I noticed sometimes the price would jump up a quarter/gal between 8am and lunchtime some days, but for some reason, (insert sarcasm font - never ever that large of a drop).

It’s .80 more than here. I’m not used to seeing SC that far off, unless you’re at an interstate exit gas station or something.

I could see a scenario where people like me have no mortgage, a $400K balance or anywhere in between.

because it's a huge variable more dependent on age than income. I didn't say I could pay it off today using our money market account that has a balance of X.
