Best Chcken Curse Moment

In celebration of the 4th, let's celebrate the Chicken Curse with your favorite Chicken Curse moment-
To get it started-
The Rod Gardner shove. It still amazes me how badly "Rod got shoved", that resulted in a Tiger victory over the Coots.

Joe Morrison turning down a Cotton Bowl invite to play for the national championship. Then they get beat by Navy, end up at the Gator and get beat by Okla. St.

Fuller to Butler......."THE Catch"....
Jul 3, 2012, 12:33 PM
|
|
Setting: Williams-Brice Game details: Clemson had dominated early on only to see the chickens come storming back and with a tiny amount of time left, actually took the lead. The chickenfans were screaming at the top of their little chicken lungs in anticipation of a comeback upset.......But the shadow of Big Ben suddenly loomed over the coop......Fuller engineered a drive downfield and in one of the greatest moments in Clemson football history, threw a pass to Jerry Butler towards the left side of the goal line. Butler leaped and at the very apex of his jump, with both arms extended as far as they could go, hauled in the ball into the endzone for the winning score.
The Clemson faction at the coop erupted! The bars in downtown Clemson spilled onto the streets! Much merriment ensued!!
Crestfallen chickenfans, chickensportswriters and chickenbroadcasters only rarely mention the game.

they had us beat - I remember their players walking around acting like they stole the game from us at the last minute. When Fuller completed that pass to Butler you would have thought the Chicken Curse itself had caught the pass.
They knew early-on they had lost the 63-17 game so there wasn't the same suspense, etc.
If you were at W-B to see "The Catch" in person you'd know what I mean.

Gotta agree. Standing in the opposite endzone, all I could see was the ball in the air and Jerry Butler's hands grab the ball. Pure joy. Cigar time boys!

Suddenly, when the Capons took the lead, the shirta were EVERYWHERE.
For about 2 minutes.
Then Fuller found Butler and all the Coots lost their shirts.

14-0 in the first half and things looked bad. I looked down the end of the row at my friend and he tapped his watch at the end of the first quarter wanting to leave. Then for some unknown reason the coots tried a reverse and fumbled in Clemson territory. Clemson scored 47 un-answered points and my friends and I were glad we did not leave Billy Brice early. Antwan Edwards picked off Victor Penn two or three times that night and Tony Horne returned a punt for a TD. Awesome Game!!!
Final Score Clemson 47 SCAR 21!!!

The chickens sole consolation during that two year
Jul 4, 2012, 9:28 AM
|
|
time period was that they fairly consistently put chickenbutts in the seats in W-B. To this day, they still point to that with great pride.......Its ironic that so many of those folks who filled the stands during the back-to-back 0-11 & 1-10 seasons got skrude when the recently departed Eric Hyman enacted seat fees to get rid the long-time but low-paying chicken boosters. And honestly, its hard to fault those coots who'd faithfully paid their dues, showed up at the games during "The Great Futility" and then got closed out when it wasn't economically feasible for them to pay the new fees, for being bitter and feeling used. Decades of remaining loyal in the face of gawdawful football and being incessantly humiliated by its much more successful rival earned them----doodly.
Oh well, none of the chickentrolls on this board will ever acknowledge that this abandonment of a certain segment of their longtime fans and two 3-year NCAA Probations are as much a part of Hyman's legacy as were their athletic successes.

Navy is the obvious frontrunner. I wasnt old enough for that one to really hurt though.
The gardner catch is my worst one. In the parking lot outside death valley after that game is when i realized i was taking things to seriously. There is no reason for events i have no control over to be that detrimental to my emotional well being. Since that game i have let losses affect me much less.

2012 Football Season
Jul 4, 2012, 8:57 AM
|
|
Coming off of the best season in their history USuC struggles to go .500 in the SEC. Their regular season ends with a humiliating blowout to Clemson and Spurrier begs the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl for an invitation. They go on to lose in the waning seconds to a scrappy Wake Forrest team.
