I love lottery logic

Dec 17, 2013, 3:03 PM

"Your odds are not going to improve that much if you buy 1 ticket or 1,000,'' says Howard, author of Lottery Master Guide. "I also think you should pick your own numbers rather than let a (point of sale) computer do it."

The first advice. . . ok sure that is true, but it doesn't matter if you pick the numbers or if a computer picks the numbers.

The computers are in cahoots with the random ball picker***

There is a bias of individuals to pick numbers under 31...

...and numbers 1-12, because so many people pick birth months and years. The point of sale pick eliminates that bias.

There is no logic to playing the lottery.

Dec 17, 2013, 3:09 PM

For the ones with a head on their shoulders, it's just a slightly amusing way to blow a couple of bucks.

For people who are stupid, it's a way to spectacularly fail at managing money.

The only fun part is dreaming what you would do with the

money, and not actually buy a ticket because you're not ridiculous.

This is me. I can tell you what I would do with the money

Dec 17, 2013, 3:11 PM

but I have never bought a ticket, at least not in a LOOOONNNNG time.

and if you were wondering, it is a new house, new car, hookers, and blow. And I would buy the tigernet so we could post nudes.

I don't see the harm in buying tickets once in awhile

Dec 17, 2013, 3:52 PM [ in reply to The only fun part is dreaming what you would do with the ]

with a huge jackpot on the line like this. However, if you are buying it for every drawing or buying scratch-offs on a daily basis, yea you have a problem

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I buy tickets for the fun of it

Dec 17, 2013, 4:03 PM

sometimes I even forget to check the numbers and I'll find a ticket and be like . . . oh yeah I forgot I bought this.

I think the odds of me buying lottery tickets increase as my job satisfaction decreases.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you played the same numbers every time, it'd eventually

Dec 17, 2013, 3:30 PM [ in reply to There is no logic to playing the lottery. ]

hit. granted, you, your kids and your grandkids might be long gone at that time, but it WILL hit.

but if you play random numbers, there's no guarantee there.

and yes, I know I'm talking about astronomical odds. Zoom out for a sec.

The lottery is a tax on people who don't understand statistics.

If you buy 1,000 lottery tickets every day

Dec 17, 2013, 3:38 PM

For 14 years, there would be a 2% chance that you would win it in those 14 years. Of course, you will have spent several million dollars on tickets at that point.

how big is the pay off and do I have to split it?***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I like to have at least a 50/50 shot at it.

Dec 17, 2013, 3:42 PM

To have a 50/50 shot at winning this jackpot, you would have to buy over 200 million tickets.
