Cost to take down 3 pine trees

One is about 10-12" in diameter, another is about 36" in diameter, and the 3rd is about 8-10" diameter.
Including grinding all 3 stumps. That middle one is YUGE. Its prob 60-70' tall.
I've received 2 quotes--$4300, and $4400. Are either in the ball park? Continue with quotes, or just pay the man?

More with other quotes. Best thing about it is how quickly they clean up and get all of the debris out of there. That's almost worth the money alone.

5 years ago, I was quoted $4800 to take down 7 pines about that size.
This past year I took down 1 and it cost $1900, and that was after getting a ton of quotes.
I hope a thunderstorm comes through, knocks them all down and it destroys my house and I'm able to collect some insurance money.

But if we get a storm this year..I have no doubt at least one of those is coming through the roof.
If 1 cost you 1900, then the $4300 sounds about right for 3.

I got significantly different quotes by calling around.
One guy was clear that part of his cost was renting a bucket truck for half a day, so when I found a guy who already had a bucket truck, the price was $1k less.
How's your Spanish?
and your umbrella policy?
Overall, sounds like about the right range if they are going to clean up after themselves.

Did the guy look like he was going to do the work himself as part of his crew?
When we've gotten work done by a white guy quoting the work, most often it's a hispanic crew doing the work anyway.
and we've talked to the crew and gotten phone numbers to call them directly for future work because they were only getting half to two thirds of what we were paying.
Trees scare me but I've definitely seen crews that are climbing the trees and cutting them from the top down. They probably don't have insurance so you'd better have a good insurance policy if something happens.

If it’s near the house just hook that sucker to a large rope and tie it to the back of the truck. Cut accordingly. Profit

unless your margin of error is a few acres and you're young enough to scamper like hayull.
The weird guy in our neighborhood hired someone to do it, and the dude still dropped a limb on the power line causing an outage. Granted, this guy worked solo and his work vehicle for tree clearing was a minivan, but ostensibly he was a "professional."

I had one I took out of my backyard before I sold my house. Guy wanted a grand to cut it down and haul away. My dad came over and we tied a 100 foot rope to it and the truck, leverages the rope around another tree the way we wanted it to fall away from the house and he cut it down while I pulled it w the truck. $1000 saved

When we have projects like this we ask our housekeeper. She knows a guy who can do whatever you need done. Call him and through broken English we always come to agreeable terms.

I paid $2580 to remove 3 cypress and a red maple
Aug 18, 2023, 5:06 PM
|
|
in March of this year, Buford area of Georgia if that matters for comparison.
Included a cutting a holly and vibumum to the stumps that had overgrown "shrub" and were solidly in the small tree scale, chip and removal of the trees, stump grinding of the cypress and maple, but no root removal.
All three cypress were about 15 years old, 18-20 inch diameter and about 40 feet tall (planted on the walk-out basement level and about as tall as the roof-line of a two-story house).

Sounds about right, but it is always an expensive proposition. I've always obtained 3 estimates and they've usually come back within $200-$300. Definitely go with references too. I went with a cheaper dude once and he put a big divot in my back yard and hit my pickup also. The price went down some more after that.
I honestly think that dude was high, but it's still better than a DYI job. I know of a dude with plenty of money and plenty of higher education who thought he was a logger.
However, he was not faster than Usain Bolt and it cost him a leg above the knee. Trees got some serious speed.

Your quotes seem fair to me based on that
I'm glad I don't remember the name of the company that was cutting down 3/4 on my property line. I asked them what it would take to get the 4th down. $2400. I kinda figured since everything was right there it would be a steal. They cited gas and travel as the reason for the higher price.
I need to get over my fear of heights and get in the tree cutting game

for the poor folk. They would spend countless nights cutting trees of all sizes for folks.
I am confident I could still do it, but at that height you need to top it first. You could rent a lift and top it easily, then work your way down. Way cheaper than what you were quoted.
