Most don’t remember that Bama came within an eyelash of the NCAA death penalty for the shenanigans they were pulling during the Dubose days. I think violations went back into the Stallings days too. Pay for play…boosters paying HS coaches $150,000 to get big recruits. Modern day NIL is what Bama did illegally behind the curtains back in those days. “NIL” is not a new concept at Bama! Yes, those days were while Dabo was there. I’m not saying anything by pointing that out, except there was a reason he was in real estate for awhile. When he was interviewed by Finebaum he mentioned how it was a liability to be a coach from Bama in those days. There are some old timer “never Dabo” Bama fans who don’t want Dabo because they held all those coaches from that era responsible, fair or not. Bama lost lots of scholarships and couldn’t go to bowl games, and had a hard time for quite awhile after that. I forget all the details but it was sharp punishment, so much so that the Saban era dynasty almost did not happen!
