One thing to remember - almost all social scientists are lefties.

All drown in a tsunami or are struck by a meteor? What usually happens when two groups fight is there is a winner and a loser. But what if winning does nothing to benefit survival? Then both groups go extinct from the problem they never saw because of their obsession hating the other group.

to protect lives first and minimize the economic fallout second. NOBODY knew what the best course of action was for finding that balance between acceptable loss of life vs. the long-term "collateral damage" that the article mentions. The NIH prioritized stopping the spread of the virus over all else, but in all fairness, I can understand why: 1 million Americans lost their fight against it. (And that's WITH those harsh masking and distancing requirements that we're now criticizing for being an overreaction.) In hindsight, they can now evaluate the impact of their decisions to inform future plans of action. That's exactly what I would want them to do no matter what their original decisions were.
