One of my former coworkers, who used to be a Clemson University employee, once told me that he would wear a Gamecocks jersey to Willy Brice so that he "wouldn't get shot".
It sounded plausible to me.

In 1986 I had just started my career after graduating college. The brother of a

guy I went to school with was working at my new place of employment. I did not know him when I started there. I took him to the game at Clemson that year. He strongly professed to being a fence-sitter, declaring he liked both schools equally. Lo and behold, he wore an orange and garnet striped shirt to the game. And, the game ended in a tie.
He has since seen the light and is a Tiger fan and has attended many games with me, and his son is a Clemson grad.
