It’s the Wild West, the comments explain everything

Dec 16, 2022, 8:49 AM

It’s going to fall and when it does the amount of people that will be left looking stupid will be hilarious

Great! We need many more to sound off before things will change and let’s hope it doesn’t get to the point where viewership and attendance takes a severe hit.

It’s not going to change, nothing can be done about it. If they try to change anything the non stop media barrage and kids refusing to play with back them down real quick. There’s no going back from here, that’s why I said the downfall of CFB is inevitable. It won’t be today nor tomorrow but it’s coming.

It's the ensuing law suits that will back everyone down***

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Never thought about that aspect of it. What a mess.

If people couldn't see this coming...

Dec 16, 2022, 8:55 AM

it was only because they weren't looking.

That's the crux of the whole problem. It's not the portal per se, it's the tampering and money. No rules or consequences. Zero oversight just like 1960's and 70's with donors enticing players. Now it's just easier with social media.

This is what Dabo was saying as well. The portal and NIL are good for the players. It’s the “adults” that are involved that are ruining it.

Exactly. How hard is it for a coach, school, or booster to

avoid incriminating themselves and get a 3rd party to contact a player or player's family to dangle the carrot? It was inevitable.

Read the article on Sports Illustrated about the Indiana fb

player who was very good as a freshman. Gave Indiana a figure they had to meet for next season (believe it was 360K). They could not. He's transferred to Oklahoma.

It's over.

How much is a national championship worth?

Dec 16, 2022, 9:29 AM

If this keeps going, a CFP program could pay off the QB of their biggest competitor to enter the portal or “opt out.” Wonder how much that would be worth to a program? Would Michigan pay Stetson Bennett $2 mil to “opt out” and prepare for the NFL? It’s pretty crazy.

Go Tigers!

I wish he would "name names" and just put it out there.

Players have to declare for the portal. That's "officially" when they can be contacted and "recruited" by other programs. But a player declares/enters the portal his current team is not bound by rule to give him his scholarship back if he changes his mind.

Not all illegal "recruiting" is initiated by other teams. players thinking about the portal are going to be working under the radar to get a handshake deal on a landing spot before they declare. Who can blame them? I can't?

Current rules are like telling you you have to tell your current employer that your are leaving before you float a resume... oh, and all the other potential employers can't look at your resume until they confirm that you've told your current employer that you are leaving? Yeah that makes sense.
