Just split the times zones into North and South divisions

Let the Mountain and Pacific zones just have 1 conference each since they would have a lot less schools. Winners of each go to a 6 team playoff. Top 2 seeds get a bye.

If we convince Notre Dame to join, I guarantee you they will

want to name the 16th team. They will likely try to get Penn State to come with them. That would put a dig in on the Big Ten and maybe Penn State will say yes. I imagine Notre Dame will try to use their clout to get Penn State to do that. If that works that will be the two, if not, then it will be their next choice and it could very well be Navy.
I myself would rather do away with divisions and just have 15 teams. When one of the 15 is Notre Dame, you don't need a 16th and I think the days of divisions are coming to an end. Notre Dame is worth more than the combo of Texas and Oklahoma. Hard to believe I know, but the media can't get enough of them.
If we had to have a 16th, I'd like to see West Virginia. What the ACC really needs to do is get Notre Dame ot join full time. It is really needed at this time. I;m glad we have them at least partially and locked in to joining ACC if anyone. It is paramount at this time that we at least have that.

Give me the original ACC for sure:
Clemson Duke Georgia Tech Maryland North Carolina NC State Virginia Wake Forest
Plus the current ACC:
Boston College Florida State Louisville Miami Notre Dame Pittsburgh Syracuse Virginia Tech
I really like these 16. Sure, we could swap a few here or there, but I like the teams I’m accustomed to playing. Make Notre Dame be a full member and I’m happy.
The only other one on your list that I would be okay adding would be Penn State. The others don’t excite me, either because they aren’t well-rounded athletically, their academics are poor, or I don’t like their fans.
UCF, USF, ECU, Rutgers, Cincinnati, and UConn wouldn’t add much, and would likely be worse than whoever they replace. Army and Navy are schools I respect, but they simply can’t recruit well enough to be competitive in the ACC. West Virginia has some good teams but they are an awful school and I can’t stand their fan base.

Sounds good for basketball- but wondering what Maryland brings to the table? The past Notre Dame- would have been wonderful- if you are looking for coverage on TV- Notre Dame for sure.

Why would Maryland come back? B1G pays much better.

The only fresh team you listed worth a squat is Penn State. The rest are garbage football wise. Now basketball is a different story. But I care far more about football.

The ACC desperately needs to add a strong football power

Which hasn't happened since Florida State and Miami. The other adds, BC, VT, Louisville, Pitt, and Syracuse are all mediocre at best. And Miami went from a top power to mediocre within the first few years of being in the ACC. And now FSU is less than mediocre. So the ACC is seriously down. We need fresh blood and I don't mean Rutgers.

14 is the perfect number of teams, especially if we do away

with divisions. 3 annual rivals for everyone then round robin the rest 2x every four years. Leaves us 4 non-conference every season to mix it up and whoop up on SCar.
16 SEC teams has an inbred touch to it. I hope we don't go that route to make it even worse.

The key, IMO, to a 16 team conference is Notre Dame. They have to either join full time or get out. I do like the idea of Penn State possibly being the 16th team. You can then form a true North South division alignment with N.D. and Penn State being the two premiere teams in the North and Clemson taking the top spot in the South ,hopefully with a much improved FSU and a more respectable Miami leading the South.

there is NO PLACE in the Atlantic Coast Conference for schools like UCF, USF, ECU, UConn, Cincinnati, Army or Navy. They bring very little, if anything, to the table.
