but the portal and the way it is being used (in most cases) is because of the entitled generations now playing football. Kids that have grown up without having to earn everything they have because of all the extra exposure on social media, etc.

A lot of them have never been allowed to fail and then when they do (or don't get the playing time they think they deserve, etc) they leave.

Is what it is at this point and it isn't going anywhere, but it makes me respect the kids that stay at a university for four years, pay their dues, and succeed even more.

There are cases where the portal isn't a bad thing. But in a majority of transfer kids it is because they don't want to work hard enough or wait for their time to come.

When the NCAA morons tampered with the transfer rule, they proved they didn't understand the mentality of 18 and 19-year-olds, even some 20 and 21-year-olds. I just don't understand the abject stupidity associated with that decision...one that is now biting the assssses of schools across the nation.

Why artificially prevent them from making it in college?

That just means someone else gets their share of the product they produced. What is it about not liking capitalism when it comes to sports?

If you want it to be amateur, then what argument do you have for paying coaches such high salaries to coach and amateur game?

Hard to argue with the athletes. As they watched universities spend millions to build ever larger and more lavish athletic facilities, spend millions on ever bigger coaching contracts, and receive millions from tv revenue, it's not surprising that athletes (many of whom come from meager backgrounds) began to question the fairness of it all. I don't like what has happened to college FB, but I understand why it happened.

Folks in the older generations (and I’m in one of the older generations) whining about young people being “entitled” has almost lost all meaning.

Entitled? Really? You think they believe the money is coming without them doing the work, putting in the hours in the gym, in the classroom, etc?

They know their value within this billion dollar industry. They know it’s nothing without them. Frankly, it’s surprising that this is only happening now. And it kind of makes previous generations of players look like suckers.

Dabo calls it “entitled” because he doesn’t know how to use the word. He does the same thing when he misuses and overuses “narrative.” Surely, you’re smarter than that. This isn’t about entitlement.

Did guys like Mitchell Mayes, Hunter Helms, and Beaux Collins transfer because they did not want to work hard or wait for their time to come?

What about Kelly Bryant, Chase Brice, Kobe Pace, Taveon Feaster, Frank Ladson, DJ Uiagelelei, Ej Williams, Decari Collins, ect.?

Most of these guys are older and getting buried on the depth chart by more talented younger players or were not receiving the NFL draft grades they had hoped and are looking for a different system to showcase their talents.

How much money Did Keon Coleman make by going to FSU just to increase his draft stock?

The first pick last year was more than 40 million guaranteed vs the last pick in the second round is only 6.2 million and it keeps going down from there.

Sure there are players who think they should be gifted a spot on the roster just for showing up, but that is not the majority. Most guys just want a chance to keep pursing their dream.

I know it's bad for Clemson and for most guys it's a bad decision to make. The mirror still travels with you and only 1.6% of college players ever make an NFL roster with most never making it out of their rookie contracts. They choose football over a degree and while in most cases I think it is a bad decision, it is not a decision I feel like I have any right to make for them.

I don't love the lack of controls on the portal or NIL, but give me a break. College football is a massive business and, until two years ago, players had virtually no rights, no freedom of movement, and no ability to make some of the money that they were earning for everyone else. It is parents' and coaches' responsibility to teach these virtues, but using those virtues as a rationale to keep players from getting basic rights is nonsense. They don't owe you, me, or anyone else anything.
