Thought they had a very good offensive game plan (Loeffler) and a decent defensive plan.
When their starting QB went out it was over
OSU has an embarrassment of riches at the skill - not too many teams can/could stop them - especially if you start going 3 and out or turning the ball over
*Beamer may be past his prime but thought his OC/DC had solid game plans - speed kills

VT fans I know expect him to be there through next year because of the game in Bristol. He's pushed for it for a long time and they don't expect him to leave before that.

interesting those that are decrying Beamer's teams, suggesting he is now outdated...
it was after all only Beamer's team last year that could beat Urban Meyer....
not FSU, not Wisconsin, not Oregon, not Michigan State...
did Beamer somehow become irrelevant in one year
or has the "internet ego" taken flight for some on the board again?

No...it was typical first/early game syndrome. Based on beating OSU last year...and OSU ultimately winning the Nat'l Championship, what VaTech did the rest of '14 defied logic.

I think you can trace the decline of the VA Tech program

directly to the decline in QB play that team has had over the past few years.
That extends to the 2nd half of the other night's game against OSU - without Brewer they had no chance.
While Beamer doesn't appear to be getting any younger, his age hasn't hurt Bud Foster's defense near as much as having O-coordinators and QB's who couldn't string out drives and score points.
Beamer's aging wasn't the harbinger of the decline of Va Tech,
Logan Thomas was.
