I’m having a tough day today guys my side kick was ran over

We had National Championships for Academy Saddleseat this past week in Murfreesboro, Tn, we won two National Championships one in Showmanship and the other in Equitation. Our other riders did well too with a 5th & 6th place finish and a 10th & 8th place finish.
When we got back I wanted to let them play for while because they had not been together while I was gone.
My buddy Truman a Golden Doodle jumped my 6 foot fence along with Sala a poodle when I let them out to play. I was fixing their food when I heard tires squeaking and a bump. I went running out and Sala was standing there looking into my soul like this is bad.
I looked in my driveway and Truman was laying there just holding on, it was horrific. I’ve been so messed up since wondering what I could have done to prevent it. We have had a cat in our yard for the last week or so in heat, I’m pretty sure he saw or heard that cat and went running to play with it. He wanted to play with everything and loved my indoor cat..lol
I had to put him down with a 9mm it was so hard but it was the right thing to do for him. I dug him a spot where we could honor him.
This has been much harder than I’ve ever experienced with an Animal, he was just so full of life and loving. I just wish I could do something to change it but I know that’s not possible.

Have had to have some great companion dogs put down and it is not easy and very hard to get over it. Sorry for your loss of a beloved pet.

Oh man ..... I feel for you. A very similar thing happened with my son's year old yellow lab several years ago. He and his wife were just devistated.

Geez, I am very sorry. This is tough and I have you in my thoughts. We have a 13-year old Beagle whom is having a hard time getting around these days a 1 year old Bichon Frise.

I found myself in the same boat. I had to take my 15 year old German Shepherd to the vet to be put down. It was the hardest thing I've ever done considering she'd been with me since my late 20's, all of my 30's and into my 40's. I told myself I'd never get another one.
But, lo and behold, the insistence of a six year old daughter can change one's mind. So, I now have two four month old Australian Shepherd twin sisters and they're awesome. I'm glad I decided to get back in the game. I missed having a side kick around the back forty.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had to put down my best friend at the very beginning of this year due to cancer that randomly came up and was very aggressive and untreatable. He was only 5. He was the best and sweetest cat I will ever have. He practically was like having a toddler around with the way he followed me everywhere (he had bad seperation anxiety) and to put into words how distraught and lost I was internally is difficult. I made many memories I'll never forget and how I came to adopt him was a story I'll also never forget. It's hard to lose the furry family and I know I'm due for another soon with our old dog. It never gets easier. I'll have you in my thoughts.

I truly feel your pain my friend, my Rottweiler passed away August 6th 2021, 15 months 3 days ago, and I'm not close to healing over his loss. My wife, and family have tried talking me into getting me another best friend, and I'm just not ready, my pain is still to raw, and I don't think that it would be fair to bring another dog in my home before I feel that I could love them close to the way I loved my Baby Boy, I mean it's still to often that I still feel him laying beside my recliner, and I still hear him lapping water out of his pan. So trust me when I say that I feel your pain, and I'm sad for you....

I had to do the same thing to my Boykin several years ago that was bit by a huge diamondback........I couldn't watch her suffer anymore and we wouldn't have made it to the vet even if we were airlifted out of the woods. I feel your pain, buddy, knowing that there is literally nothing you can do but prevent further suffering. Hang in there, you did the right thing.

I’m just having a hard time with thinking I could have gotten them in sooner or watched them play. The person who hit him didn’t even stop to tell someone or see if anything could be done.( he was done or I would have taken him to our vet right down the road)
I didn’t want him to suffer any longer, having a farm I’ve lost many animals through the years but this one was different, it was so sudden and violent.
I can’t imagine how our military handle what they see in conflict. Thank you to all our service members, so grateful for you all.
Again a huge thank you to all for the encouragement. I’m sorry for the ones all of you have list as well.
It’s crazy how much love our animals give and how attached we get because as some of you mentioned they are our family, always giving more than we could possibly give.
