IMPORTANT INFO for anyone going to Athens this weekend

If you're going to Athens this weekend, you really need to read this. My ONE and ONLY trip to Athens in 1984...

So we lost that 1984 game on a last second field goal by Kevin Butler. It was my senior year and I was with my best friend and her very nice Kappa Sig boyfriend. Here are a few things that transpired in the lovely town of Athens on that fateful day:

1. Toward the end of the game, my friend's purse slipped down through the crappy bleachers they had us sitting in and we immediately RAN downstairs to get it and it was GONE...I mean so fast gone...no lost and found, no nothing.

2. Then, we're walking out of the stadium, and some old blue hair UGA granny made a point to shout "How sweet it is!" right in our orange-pawed faces. My friend's boyfriend replied: "Shutup, you old bat!"

3. We made it back to the 1975 Ford Granada and thankfully my friend had a hide-a-key or something because we were ready to get the heck out of Athens. This particular Granada was a 2 door so I was literally stuck in the back seat between 2 large coolers.

4. Granada had no a/c, so we had the windows down and had to travel down what felt like MILES of UGA fans on either side of the road. The right side of the road had a berm or hill with railroad tracks and the UGAs were all OVER the hill and pouring into the road. The UGAs were throwing beer cans at the cars, etc. I was scared to death. Suddenly a few toothless, skinheads (very Deliverance-looking people)came to the car and YANKED my friend's boyfriend out of the passenger seat through the rolled down window of our moving car and started beating the living daylights out of him. (In full disclosure, boyfriend certainly may have said something, possibly about the genetics of the UGA peeps...I really don't know. I was just stunned at the number of people bidding us such a friendly farewell on the sides of the road.) My friend put the car in park and ran out of the car and jumped on the back of the guy trying to rip her boyfriend's ears off and started beating him all over the head. As I said, I was stuck in the backseat and couldn't do anything.

Anyway we made it back to Clemson by the grace of God and vowed to never return to Athens...and we never have.

UPDATE: I have remained true to my vow never to return to Athens. My friend is returning this year with her husband and teen son. I am in fear for their lives and have advised her to rent a HUMMER.

I've tried to attach a few pics...I think...that resemble some of the objects of that day.

My tips:
Be safe.
Hold onto to your loved ones and personal belongings.
Keep your windows rolled up and the car doors locked.

Godspeed and GO TIGERS!!!
