Yes he could. Used to hear a band play some of his music. When they did, the crowd acknowledged and the dance floor would quickly fill.

He is one of my favorites.
Saw him perform in Texas in the 80’s.
He left us to soon.

I was fortunate to see him play a few weeks before he died. Incredible show! That band was so tight!! A bonus was that Joe Cocker opened and he put on a great show too.
