Off to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park for the rest of the week. A beautiful trip so far. Had never been to South Dakota but have been to Estes Park several times. Better than being at home in Ark where it will be over 100 several days this week. Go Tigers!

most underrated spot in the country. Right up there with the best National Parks. I've been to all that stuff out there and you're headed to another great area now!

Except I imagine the winters are harsh?? Absolutely gorgeous. Used to live in Colorado Springs and went to Estes park for the weekend several time when my wife and I were younger weds. A lot more crowded now from what I understand.

I’m sure it’s a different type of beauty. But I’ve been to PIke’s Peak and the Garden of the God’s. Given that you’ve probably hit those spots from your time In Colorado Springs, the Black Hills are with the trek?

Amen to that. Have been to the Black Hills three times now. Custer State Forest is Yellowstone without the bubbling mudholes and the crowds. The paleontology museum in Hill City is incredible - same guys that discovered "Sue", the big T-Rex in Chicago. Also the winery in Hill City and the mammoth trap in Hot Springs, and great trout fishing.

Visited Grand Tetons few summers ago and couldn't stand it! All the beautiful trout streams, I ended up spending $700 on Orvis fly-fishing rod, reel, flies and other gear. Fished all my life all over but never tackled fly-fishing. I had a blast and waded streams 3 days straight. It was gorgeous! You can really get zoned out listening to flowing water, flipping a fly around while looking around at beautiful scenery. Highly recommend it!

I was more worried about mountain lions than bears. I saw countless puma prints on the banks of streams I was fishing. Never saw bear tracks but did see pack of coyotes take down a small deer while up there fishing.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of advice on what to see and do there. I won't go over all the "usual suggestions."

If you are into day hiking, a hike that is not too difficult and is often overlooked is the hike up to the top of Deer Mountain. More bang for the buck than most hikes. Ask a ranger about it. You'll enjoy it.

The Dakotas is the only area of the USA I’ve yet to visit.
