Getting Overton and Nolan in the portal shows Ole Miss is for real. I’d put him in the top 5. He is the cool hip thing with an offense like we used to have.

And has Ole Miss positioned to take the next step, certainly so in the new playoff era.
You could argue Ryan Day is on there too. He has finished in the top 5 every season he has been there, except probably not this year, won double digit games every year except for COVID, Bennett in the playoff a few times, played for a title and played in a NY6 bowl every year.
Also recruits in the top 3 every season.
Just hadn't won the big one.

I am not sure any of your top three could take a non blue blood to the playoffs. Same for Ryan Day. Sure they are good coaches but could they win big at a place without every advantage. Dabo and LK have proven they are difference makers

Saban did well at Michigan State which I would not consider a blue blood. He also took LSU to new heights after LSU had many years of mediocre play.
Harbaugh has not only been successful at Michigan, but he was also highly successful at Stanford and the NFL.
However, I do see your point.

Here is a counterpoint to his point…
Look at the performance of those coaches immediately before Nick, Kirby, and Jim.
Alabama was ####. Michigan was middling. And Georgia was a little above those others.
So to me all three are difference makers.

Tearing it up in portal, just means buying a bunch of players with $$$ and promises he can’t keep IMO…. Nothing to do with how good a coach he is..
I agree he has matured and has a great offensive mind… good coach, but portal to me is more about buying guys and promising them they will play…..

He is the closest thing to Steve Spurrier we have in CFB today. I know a lot of people dislike Spurrier but he was a great coach. He hired top notch defensive coordinator's so he didn't have to spend time on it. One of the best play callers and designers ever.

Spurrier was my comparison as well. The man was in my opinion an offensive Guru and as good of a play caller as there has ever been on the sidelines. His issue was always on the defensive side at Florida and once he got Bob Stoops in there all the pieces were in place.

He has a record of 95 - 49 (66% winning percentage) record since 2009... not to mention the bang up job he did in the Pros. Note: he was fired from the real USC half way thru the 2013 and did not coach again u til the 2017 season.
Dabo has a 170 - 43 (almost 80% winning percentage) record since 2008
Is Lane one of the top 5, top 10, top 20 best coaches? Let the facts decide. He has done a little better of late but a top 5? Hmm?

As your first post on T-Net, you presented me with literally no facts to back your claim that Lane is not a good coach. You claimed Lane is not a good coach now because of his record at other schools many years ago. Furthermore, he has adapted to be one of the best in the business in this day and age whether you like him or not.
So, you can call me wrong, you can claim whatever you want but the information you provided does not disprove that Lane Kiffin is one of the best in the business in 2023.

My "opinion" is he is not a top 5 coach and i presented his record and some facts as proof. Like I said earlier, he is better as of late but i still do not believe he is top 5. In my opi ion, when he is consistently in the conference championship and the playoffs, then he will be in the conversation, but until then, i do not believe he is.
