for freestanding tubs? Looking for recommendation on brands. I'm hesitant to buy something cheap after an incident with pfister a few years back. Seems like the gap between Moen and the other stuff is huge.

Moen and Kholer look the best and are also the best quality for residential stuff. The other thing you don't want to cheap out on is the supply lines (unless it's hard piped in there for some reason). They're all cheap, but don't like buy them off of amazon or some shiz. Don't fret on spending the extra $10 to make sure you got a nice set of braided stainless steel.

BTW, I've never done a tub faucet, but a faucet's a faucet.

That's the setup we have. Tried one and it was flimsy AF when installed. Started looking elsewhere and I was like "Nah, I'm not paying $1200 for a freaking faucet". Got one off Wayfair for like $350-400 and working like a champ 3 years later. Don't remember name and model but I'll try to find.
